Play Book Tag discussion

There are books that will require reading a few chapters before the story captures me. Then there are books that capture my full attention from the very first page and A Song to Drown Rivers is one of these. I love this setting immediately. The introduction of the protagonist (hidden in her veil) intrigued me. The first encounter between the romantic interests nearly killed me. If I could (no thanks to kids), I would have inhaled this book in one single sitting though I more or less did that anyway (for the last 3/4).

I have to confess my ignorance of the historical context of this story and character so while it in no way detract from the story; I also kinda knew how it was going to end. Strong women in history - where are they all? I truly enjoyed this setting and the gripping developing drama to its agonising end. There were a couple of things that I'm questioning but which I'm leaning towards forgiveness as I can see it's really expedient to the plot and adds to the dramatic setting.

For the avid historical fiction fan, I would note that this novel is very much drama-driven and for the YA-loving crowd. However, if you love those Asian soapies, you would love this; all throughout the reading, I can picture them clearly in my head as a soapie. I would 100% watch this one if even it hits the screen!
