Started a little bit of this last night, only a few chapters in.

I'm not expecting this to be a literary masterpiece but am hoping for some silly entertainment.

The beginning of the meeting with the Overseer reminded me a bit of the efficiency reviews from Office space. Though I guess there no one had to worry about being eaten by a demon.

The church scene with the sin eating was a bit weird.

I'm hoping this isn't just cut and paste characters with some amusing dialogue. We'll have to see.

I've gotten to the pawn shop scene

I am curious as to why someone messed with their curse and what the end game was there. I guess I need to learn more about the magi trapped in there? I don't know if the curse was messed with to keep the stone intact or to have it break down to release the power stored there?

Lazlo is an clear fall guy because whoever set him up knew he wouldn't take being the curse holder seriously. I'm wondering if it was his father or someone else.

overall though the characters are fairly surface level still and not sure that is going to change. I'm just along for the ride and not trying to think deep about this story. Not sure it's meant to be deep either. (hide spoiler)]

I’m at 40% and on the trip to Europe. (view spoiler)[ I’m also finding it fairly superficial and with the items to get, it is falling in almost a list so far. Hopefully it will get more complex. I’m assuming whoever took the missing piece doesn’t want the magi released but agree that he was assigned to not move it forward. Otherwise it’s amusing and I’m reading it in my tent at night so that works. (hide spoiler)]

Also from the start the sin eating makes no sense. Is this normal in this world or a weird village cult. It makes no sense unless we are told later that magic is supporting it.

I thought this was very, very strange. And so far doesn't seem to fit in with the tone and time period for the rest of the book

Well I’ll get some final comments up under a spoiler tag but the bathroom scene almost put me off the entire book and was poorly done.

Yes, that scene was a mess and just should of been cut from the book or written much differently

Very much cut and it’s referred to again later badly
