Ditto. I may read the annual for the first time.

I read that one in my youth and still have my copy, dated 1986! It would be good to reread it - I'll try to fit it in.
Looking at the sample of Tale of Genji and it seems challenging but not manageable. Plus, there is a Norton Critical Edition, and I collect those. Any excuse to buy a new book :)
Yay! I dipped my toe into Tale of Genji earlier this year and enjoyed it but did feel like it was a lot, and I got distracted, so this is perfect timing for me to keep me on task over time :)
Tale of Genji was great: hope everyone reading in the new year really enjoys it. I might join as well since it's been 14 years since I read it and could be down for it again. Since I've decided to space out my remaining 1001 books over next year, I'm also excited to vote in the quarterlies again. going to start looking at potential noms :)
My 1001 reading plans derailed almost completely in 2024, so I am hoping to get back into it in 2025. I have The Tale of Genji, so I'll probably join in for that. I loved the TBR Takedown in previous years, but this year it didn't work for me at all, I'm going to try again for 2025. I did start volunteering at our library's used book store this month, so I might actually be able to access more BOTM books in 2025 too. I was starting to run low on books from the List that I actually owned this year.I have been wanting to start at the earlier published books and read a chunk of books in one era, so I might do that in 2025 too.
I'm going to try to be more active in this group again in 2025. This year was a bit of a flop, even for the TBR challenge!I'll definitely join for The Tale of Genji. I have it in a very pretty two volume set, which makes it seem more manageable.
I've been meaning to read Daniel Deronda for years, so that will be a priority too. I don't know about the Idiot. I'm currently at the end of Crime and Punishment, and while I really enjoy it I might want a bit of break before reading another Dostoevsky. And I read The Three Musketeers for the second time a couple of years ago. V might be a bit heavy for final quarters, but we'll see where I'm at.
I read the Tale of Genji a few years ago in print and really appreciated it by the time I made it all the way through. There's no way I'll be able to fit it in again this year in print, but I've added the audio of a different translation to my library and hope to revisit it again that way this year. If you are on Litsy, there are tags for many individual chapters from that previous readalong that include comments, artwork, cultural, or historical information. The tags are Genji and the number of the chapter.
