*4.5 stars out of 5*

I throughly enjoyed this book!

It elegantly balances between the lines of being both melancholic and thrilling.

Each chapter leaves you desperate for more and although Mellors creates a chasm between the reader and characters through a third person narrative, it personally allowed me to feel closer to the heart of the novel by gifting me the opportunity to remain quite unbiased amidst the messiness of each knotted story thread.

On the surface it reads like quite a grey and painful depiction of love and loss, yet the smatterings of intensity that Mellor injects into her story, truly are purged at a deliciously colourful pace from start to finish. I really can’t wait to see how this is adapted for screen!!

I would’ve given it a 5 star review, but I didn’t find the ending to be satisfying enough for some of the key characters to the story, even though Cleo and Frank’s was suitably fitting. It just felt, in some ways, like an unfinished puzzle piece, but maybe that was the point.
