I must agree this is The Greatest Espionage Story of the Cold War. Macintyre, as usual, has done his homework. He has written a book that read more like a Thriller than a Non-Fiction.

Oleg Gordievsky, when he witnessed the Berlin Wall coming down, began to rethink his ideology of the USSR. As he looked closer, during his posting as a hidden Soviet Diplomat in a Democracy, he knew he had to "switch sides". He became a double agent for MI6, in London, and began a double life. The British Intelligence Agency kept his identity secret and also the fact that they had someone high in the KGB that was theirs.

Macintyre is always spot on with with research, but this book deserves high praise.

Highly recommended, It will be on my top ten this year.

Hannah | 3352 comments I also gave this one 5 stars. I don't read much non-fiction, but Ben Macintyre is the exception to this. I think I've read about 8 of his books now, and they have all been either 4 or 5 star reads for me.

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12692 comments I love his writing too Hannah. Never dry, always suspenseful.
