5.1- It's All Natural

The best of the weather might be gone for the year, but that doesn't make our natural world any less impressive! From crisp Winter sunrises over mountains and lakes to dramatic pine forests reaching for the skyline, there's still plenty of beauty to appreciate even in the coldest of seasons.

Read a book with a cover depicting a natural landscape scene. The landscape cannot contain any human or man-made objects - only animals, plants, water, landforms, etc.

Examples: Desert Solitaire by Edward Abbey Texas Blue (Whispering Mountain, #5) by Jodi Thomas The Magicians (The Magicians, #1) by Lev Grossman The Lady On My Left by Catherine Cookson
Does not work: Island Girls by Nancy Thayer (umbrella in the sky) Impossible (Impossible, #1) by Nancy Werlin (person standing in field)

Required: Post the cover

Susan A | 1746 comments This book -- it doesn't work because there is some sort of structure in the trees, but what about the yellow box around the text? Is that something that is disqualifying?

Tonight You’re Dead (Sandhamn Murders #4) by Viveca Sten

I think that is just the way they put the series on the cover, like the title. I wouldn't consider that part of the cover scene, so it wouldn't by itself disqualify the cover.

message 6: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 1453 comments I have a similar question. The scene on the cover isn't manmade, but there is a pattern behind the title. Does that disqualify it?
Dance Hall of the Dead (Leaphorn & Chee, #2) by Tony Hillerman

Stealing the words from one of the mods, we feel that is just a 'glorified text box' for the title, so that cover will work.

We are looking into a way to reword the task to make it a little clearer.

Katrisa | 1453 comments Thanks! That's kind of how I looked at it as well. Glorified text box is a good description!

This was harder than I expected it to be - although I'm pretty sure that
A Thousand Acres by Jane Smiley and Isle of Palms (Lowcountry Tales, #3) by Dorothea Benton Frank should work, I'm not so sure about
Weyward by Emilia Hart , The Mother's Promise by Sally Hepworth , Winter Solstice by Rosamunde Pilcher or The Immortalists by Chloe Benjamin .
What say you?

I would say Weyward by Emilia Hart and The Immortalists by Chloe Benjamin do not fit for this task. While they do have only natural elements on the cover, it is not a landscape scene you would be able to see if you walked outside.

I would say this will work. The landscape scene on the bottom half is clearly separate from the map on the top half of the cover.

This does not work, there is a cottage/house in the background.

Can you confirm that you can't see anything man made in this one?

If you need a larger version to check, this is the Amazon record for the same edition: https://www.amazon.co.uk/River-Runs-t...

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 3946 comments turns out the book i wanted to read does not have the cover that would fit

would any of these work
The Passing Storm by Christine Nolfi

Damnation Spring by Ash Davidson

The Passage (The Passage, #1) by Justin Cronin

Interestingly I found all of these on this cover book list
https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...
- for anyone who is having difficulty finding something for this task the list is worth a look

Elizabeth (ebpnd17) | 820 comments Hello!

Would this book work:
Telling Tales (Vera Stanhope #2) by Ann Cleeves ?

It looks like a landscape scene on the whole, but there's a little "stamp" on the bottom right corner about the corresponding TV series that has her profile in it

Thank you!!
