I've read 25 of those listed above. I currently have 2 on my TBR shelves:
- Play it as it lays (Didion)
- The Circle (Eggers)
I'd back Eggers over Didion, as I intend to use Didion in my TBR challenge. Not averse to some of the classics I haven't read yet, like Oliver Twist, Ormond/The Absentee and The Mill on the Floss (although this one is almost eligible for a quarterly).

I want to read The Circle, too. So happy to see that on your list Patrick. I’ve read Play it as it Lays. I am one who likes Joan Didion’s writing.
I’ve read 25 of these, not counting the one’s that are excluded. Other’s that I have on the shelf; Sister Carrie, La Reigne Margot.

I've read 24. I was planning to read The Circle in December for my last book in the keyword challenge, but maybe I will find something else for that and save The Circle for January if it's voted in.The only other one that I own is The Judge and His Hangman, but since that was a 2021 BotM, it won't qualify for the randomizer and I guess a lot of people have read it. So I wouldn't bother to vote for that.
The Circle looks good. There's a movie adaptation with Tom Hanks and Emma Watson that I'd be interested in watching after reading.

Jane thanks for the info on the movie. I am always glad for a tie-in.

I have only read 8 books from this list. I have not read any Dickens except A Christmas Carol. I am going to throw in A Tale of Two Cities for the randomizer, I want to read this before I head to Paris next year.

Oh how fun to be heading to Paris, Diane.
Oh how fun to be heading to Paris, Diane.
I’ve read 19 of these. The only one I currently own is A Visit from the Goon Squad so I may put that in the randomizer when I’ve looked at my plans for next year.
I have read 19 of these. I have already read Play it As it Lays, The Circle and a Visit from the Goon Squad. I have read both George Eliots. I wouldn't mind a Dickens as the only ones I have read are The Christmas Carol and Hard Times. I would be open to either Tale of Two Cities or Oliver Twist. I would like to read La Reigne Margot also, but I will wait a bit before voting for it in case others want to read Dickens, in which case I will add votes to one of his.
I've read 18, so 39% which is a little better than my usual. The Circle doesn't seem to have very high ratings from GR readers.Dickens' Hard Times is the highest in my to-read list of these that I haven't read (& it's the only one of these I own); I've read the other 4 Dickens in this list. Next down my to-reads are Hound of the Baskervilles by Doyle and "Uncle Petros and Goldbach's Conjecture".
I got time blind and forgot to check this out: which turned out to be fine because i've read these ones. I'll leave the voting to others this month. I hope you enjoy your trip to Paris Diane!
I have read 17, mostly the classics (Dickens, Elliot) but also a lot of what is being mentioned (dideon, Egan) and I dnf’d the circle back when it came out, but if we are being completionists maybe I can listen. I am going to vote for stone junction to put it into the randomizer
Last day to get your votes in, winner announced tomorrow. And if you haven't stopped by the Quarterly read topic to put in your nominations for next years quarterly reads, we will be starting the vote for quarterly on the 25th.
January 2025 Reads:
Popular Vote: The Circle
Randomizer: Ragtime picked by Jane
The Circle was a clear winner for January. Two other books received a good number of nominations; La Reigne Margot and A Tale of Two Cities.
What will you be reading in January?

Aargh, Ragtime is my TBR book this month so I’ll probably give January a miss. It’s very good so far though :)
Sorry Pamela! That is the first randomizer I've had selected. I hope everyone who reads it enjoys it!
Jane wrote: "Sorry Pamela! That is the first randomizer I've had selected. I hope everyone who reads it enjoys it!"And I forgot to vote so I definitely can’t complain! I’ll keep an eye on the discussion and reviews anyway.
Ragtime is probably my favorite by Doctorow. A very good book. So I probably won’t reread it but will see. I also may have to read The Circle before January so January could be an odd start for me.
Pamela, I think you can participate in the discussion and earn at least 1 point that way.

I will be reading Ragtime for January but have read The Circle. Hopefully, this will give me a jump start on the annual or quarterly read.
