I read this earlier this year. For about the first half I was undecided on how I felt about it, but somewhere along the line it all pulled together for me and I ended up absolutely loving it. I'll be interested to see how others respond to it.

Sorry for having been absent lately!
I've finished it some weeks ago, but did'nt have the time to comment.
I've liked this caming and going along timeline; I've appreciated the intervention of the daughters of the narrator: giving a sort of side view. A book I've enjoyed quite
What do you say?

Erica | 958 comments This was my last book read in 2024 and what a way to go out :)

I really enjoyed it and I liked that the transitions between past and present felt really 'soft' and flowed well.

I have two sisters and so the protagonist relating this portion of her life to her three daughters really resonated with me. I liked that all the three sisters had unique personalities.

Liked that it was set on a cherry farm during the pandemic but that that context wasn't hammered home, only mentioned occassionally - this felt quite realistic. They had business to get on with and were riding out the storm in their little coccoon.

I also felt it was quite realistic in that the daughters obviously had learned tidbits of the story in the past and made assumptions about how the parents had got together but then hearing the story in it's entirety, it was different (e.g. they didn't get together as soon as they met).

Love Ann Patchett and will definitely keep reading what she puts out.
