Hello everyone and welcome to our second reading challenge! This challenge is optional of course, however, as many of those who participated in our last challenge can attest, our reading challenges are super fun! This challenge’s theme is winter and the holiday season! Just like before, you can sign up for a team by commenting here. Please read the rest of this message IN FULL before entering the challenge!

❄️START/END DATES
As the majority of you voted for a 3-4 week challenge, this challenge will last from December 1st, 2024 to January 1st, 2025, to usher in the new year! You can start logging books as soon as November 30th and ALL BOOKS must be logged by the night of the 1st, otherwise those points will not be counted.

❄️RULES

🎅 As stated above, all books MUST be logged between the aforementioned start and end dates to count for points. You may start logging books the day before the challenge starts (it starts December 1st)

🎅 The LAST DAY to sign up will be December 5th. If you sign up after that date, you will NOT be able to participate. If you attempt to log books, we will NOT count your logs.

🎅 DNFs, comics and graphic novels, and stories under 100 pages WILL NOT BE COUNTED. If you read fanfiction, the story must have 10+ chapters and be ON GOODREADS. If you want more information please send me a message and said info will be provided.
╰┈➤ examples of fanfics on goodreads that you can use: Manacled, Secrets and Masks, The Disappearance of Draco Malfoy.
Note: please ignore how these are all dramione fanfics. Flame me if you will, but humns and almas get it and that’s all that matters

🎅 There IS a point system that needs following for this challenge. If you write a personal review outside of logging the books, please link it so you can get the points! Please also specify in the review that it is counted towards the “warm drinks and holiday cheer” reading challenge so we know it’s for the right book! Additionally, writing prompts and said personal reviews, written in the log or otherwise, MUST be 50+ words to get full credit. If you have any questions relating to this AFTER reading the rest of this message, please do not hesitate to ask!

🎅 Audiobooks WILL count for this challenge, but you need to log the physical copy to get the full amount of points.

🎅 Last time, we had a slight issue with the halloween bonus points. I want to make it clear: PLEASE log your books AS SOON AS YOU CAN. It’s less fair if everyone is logging books on the holidays and getting bonus points for it. So again, please don’t wait until a holiday to log your books, just do it as soon as you can! This also makes it easier for you so that your books to log don’t pile up.

❄️HOW TO GET POINTS

☃️ You can get points for the # of pages a book has, how many stars you rated that book, prompts, and bonus points. ALL prompts are unlimited with the exception of a few (and ofc ONE TIME BONUS POINTS)

☃️ # of Pages:
100-200 (+2 points)
201-300 (+4 points)
301-400 (+6 points)
401-500 (+8 points)
501+ (+10 points)
700+ (+12 points)

☃️ star rating:
1 star (+1 point)
2 stars (+2 points)
3 stars (+3 points)
4 stars (+4 points)
5 stars (+5 points)

☃️ If your decimal for the rating is under 0.5 PLEASE ROUND DOWN; if your decimal for the rating is 0.5 or OVER, PLEASE ROUND UP

☃️ RAB (Read A Book) prompts are (+7 each). Activity prompts are (+6) each. Writing prompts are (+9) each. If you write a personal review, that is (+8). Again: writing prompts and personal reviews MUST be 50+ words for the full amount of points.

☃️Buddy reads are (+7)

☃️BOTM is (+10)

☃️Bonus Points ONE TIME if your birthday is in DECEMBER or JANUARY. Bonus Bonus points if it’s on a holiday that occurs during the challenge!

☃️ Prompts, how to log books, and further explanation on bonus points will be posted on the individual team logs. Please make sure you are logging on the CORRECT TEAM LONG so that there is no confusion.

❄️ Questions that were asked during the last challenge (+ their answers)

🎁Q: Do you need to finish a book before you log it?
ׂ╰┈➤ A: Yes, you must complete the book before entering it in the log.

🎁Q: Can you add the review after logging the book?
╰┈➤ A: Yes, but PLEASE let your team leader know that you are going to be doing that and just add the points you’ll get for the review when you log at the beginning, then once you finish the review link it and we won’t have to go back and change all the totals.

🎁Q: do you have to add up the team total in your reading logs?
╰┈➤A: yes! So, you are going to find the team total from the person who last logged and then add ur points and that will be the team total. Additionally, YOUR TOTAL at the end of each log is the complete amount of points you have after you’ve added all your logs up.

🎁Q: can you log rereads?
╰┈➤ A: absolutely! I know some people don’t like adding rereads to their GR challenges but you can certainly add them to ours for points!

🎁Q: how do we log writing prompts?
╰┈➤A: you can really honestly do it anyway that works for you, but this is how I like to: copy and paste the prompt, put it in parentheses, respond, and then at the end do (+9).
Example: (who was your favorite character? why?) my favorite character was x, because...(+9)


🎁Q: if you do the same activity prompt over multiple days, do you get points for each day?
╰┈➤ A: this is kind of hard to explain but basically, no. if you did it at all over the period you were reading the book, you are going to log it ONCE


🎁Q: can you use RAB prompts for multiple books?
╰┈➤ A: ofc! All prompts besides bonus points are unlimited!

🎁Q: is fanfiction included in the challenge?
╰┈➤A: it wasn’t for the last one, just because it was kind of an unprecedented thing and lowk I didn’t know fanfics were on goodreads, BUT it IS for this one!!

🎁Q: how do we know if the book fits a certain category (for example, romance)?
╰┈➤ if it’s a side plot (like two characters getting together) log it as that genre!

❄️TEAMS!!

There are TWO teams for this challenge! With Nat back, the team captains will be me and her. Team names aren’t set in stone, but for now they are The Snowflakes (nat’s team) and The Cocoas (my team). I will do my best to set you on the team you want to be on, but please understand that teams need to be even in order for the challenge to be fair. Additionally, if something comes up during the challenge (such as an unexpected test you need to study for) please let your team captain know. We want to help you as much as possible. Finally, we are aware it is exams season - that’s the other reason we are having a longer challenge, to give people more time. This challenge is designed to be accommodating to the people who are in exams/finals crunch. Please be cooperative and respectful to your teammates and captain!
