It's ironic because he's the most minor character of all minor characters to ever actually play a SEMI important role EVER, but he seems so cheery and fun and like he'd be down for anything, even building a snowman in sub-zero temperatures. my least favorite character is annabelle, and if you've ever read this book it's pretty self explanatory. she's the antagonist of this book and is pretty much evil. like I don't even know if she thinks the "society" is a cult. I hated her and Gavin too, for always trying to put maren and Remington against each other. 9 pts

My favourite character would have to be Alex (but i also equally love Dawes and Darlington its just that Alex is the main MC here) because she's just so determined to save Darlington. And she cares more about her friends than she lets on. She's also pretty clever and has been through a lot but never lets her past defeat her. I also just like the badass adventures she has. This book was just pretty wacky and i loved it.

(!!!!SPOILERS FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT TO READ THIS!!!!)
I would change the part where Alex and Dawes fail the first time in saving Darlington and change it to them in actually succeeding the first time because it would have left more time for Alex and Darlington's relationship to develop rather than it being turned into the slowest slowburn you can imagine. Like they (mainly Alex tho) literally saved him in the last 20% of the book!! But I guess that was essential to the plot. Still now i have to wait for the next book to see what happens and its probably coming out in 2 or 3 years 😭

This would be hard to decide as there wasn't anyone that was my favourite. But, if I had to choose the most tolerable person it might be indie, i don't agree with certain stuff she did, but she had a fighter and fiery soul, and I can only imagine how fun being her friend would be, she was the type to help people get out of their comfort zone only to find out they liked it. I liked that quality in her.
🎁 what would you change about the book? Why?
So much. Like for example cut a lot of unnecessary stuff out that just made the book more dull, so I'd say like leave it at 200 pages? 500 was excessively long, the author tried to include romance in this, but there was ZERO connection, nothing made sense, so I would advise the author in the future to include bits of information actually interesting to read about, and not to skip over certain information like the Rising, and Xander's harried involvement in Medicine, etc. There is so much more, but I'll stop here for now.
(🎁 who was your least favorite character? Why?):
I don't even know, everybody? But I'll go with either Cassia or The Pilot. I liked the idea of the Pilot, don't get me wrong but I feel like Ally Condie just abused Sisyphus's story by incorporating severe dullness. This can be reflected in both Cassia and The Pilot's actions.
🎁 what was your favorite quote from the book? Why?
“In a story, you can turn to the front and begin again and everyone lives once more. That doesn't work in real life.” It's really beautiful in my opinion and captivating, incorporating the realistic side of life, and displaying the rare moments of relatable/ actually understandable + liked writing by the author. I relate to this, as life isn't a story that can be flicked through, returned to the start, or forwarded to the future.
🎁 what character would you most like to build a snowman with? Why?
Eli. The kid is so cute, I would love to spend time with him, I know we got like 2 pages max with him being mentioned but he's so chubby and sweet, and I love kids that are sweet so I think we would have such a fun time together to be honest <3

Nope. Definitely not. Lacked the connection that readers crave with characters, lacked in romance so much that it gave a lacklustre view on the whole book, lots of things were unclear, and undefined, and there was so many unwanted and unneeded ''plot'' and things in there that made reading this book a flipping pain to read.

I know it’s unusual for the main character to be your favorite, but I just love how strong she is! She is a woman in a male dominated world, so she has to get past all the barriers society puts on her to fully embrace herself, and the character growth was beautiful to read! She’s also so spontaneous and funny sometimes, she is so so smart and calculating I just love her! +9
🎁 I would absolutely gift this book to my friends! This is the perfect gothic and atmospheral read, it’s well written and fast paced, the romance and mystery are really intriguing, and i think that my friends would love it! It has everything they want, and just knowing my friends, I think that this woukd be a high 4 or 5 star read for her! +9
🎁 my favorite quote from the book was “she no longer feared what brewed within her, and she was done making apologies for who she was. Signa would not just burn; she would ignite” this is at such a vital moment to her character development and I think it just shows who’s powerful and lovely Signa can be if only she embraces her true self! +9
🎁 I think that the moment where Signa has to force propriety in tea shops and parties and balls is most likely to happen to me, probably because it happens whenever I go anywhere lol. I have really strict parents who always want me to act “like a lady” and whenever I go to my Asian and Russian aunties houses, it’s customary for me to behave in a very mindful very demure way that I don’t particularly like but don’t particularly hate. I like helping around, but I’d appreciate it is the men did more than just sit around ya know? +9
🎁 the character I would most like to shop for in the holiday season is Blythe! The poor girl has been sick via poison berries for so long, and she’s been cooped up in a room for MONTHS! she has very little strength, until she regains it at the end, and I’m just so proud of her! She is a sarcastic and funny and purely lovely character and she deserves the entire world, I love her so so much! +9
🎁 i would love to spend a snowy day in with Marjorie! I mean she can play piano and feed me scones, I literally love her! She has such strong judge mental-but-i-still-love-you aunty vibes! I would love to spend a snowy day in with her eating scones (my favorite English dessert, whenever I make them my family goes full game of thrones and eats them all within the day lmao) and learning how to play piano becuase it is just such a gorgeous instrument, and if anyone can teach my uncoordinated hands how to play piano, it Marjorie! 🎁 who was your favorite character? Why?
Snow is by far my favourite. She's the youngest girl in the queen trials and that makes her a bit more relatable than the 22 year old protagonist. I like that the writer doesnt paint her as the fragile young child to take pity on like some other books do. Snow is smart, cold and capable when put under stress and I love her for it.
🎁 who was your least favorite character? Why?
Despite there being a completely rotten to the core antagonist, i cant help despising Odessa (the minor antagonist) with a burning passion. Odessa is the embodyment of the sassy, rude selfish brat stereotype that you often see in books. Think Celeste from the selection series. She always wants the spotlight on her and is contantly attacking Clio (the protagonist) verbally and (when the killing round starts) physically. She not even supposed to be there anyway, but she managed to cheat her way through two of the rounds.
🎁 what would you change about the book? Why?
The only reason I didnt rate this book 5 stars is because of the misleading name. Despite this book being called the wishing round, the actual wishing round takes place in the next book, and the wishing round is when things finally start to get interesting as the book goes from a selection series style to a more hunger games esqe style. Its hyped up so much in the second book but we dont get to see it until the next book. I had to wait and manage to scrounge up 5 bucks to be able to get the next book on kindle. So I would make the book titled accordingly and have the book that actually includes the wishing round to be named the wishing round.

probably francis abernathy. out of all of the students in julian's class he seems the most chill, friendly and the most respectful. although it used to be henry, i started to not like him as much once his ulterior motives were revealed and when he started acting all psycho and weird. (+9)

this has got to be bunny corcoran. i feel bad saying this but i'm glad he died (not a spoiler by the way, it's in the prologue and the blurb). he's just a racist, classist, sexist, homophobic joke and i cringed deeply whenever he opened his mouth and spoke. and he's just unlikeable with absolutely no redeeming qualities whatsoever. it has to be "Beauty—unless she is wed to something more meaningful—is always superficial." super in love with this quote and just how the book, in general, approaches the depth of beauty. and how beauty, though subjective, can arise and manifest itself in a plethora of ways. it opened up my eyes to the limits of beauty and revealed to me that it has no bounds, no confines. (+9)
🎁what would you change about the book? why?
i would definitely change the ending of the book. i'm a huge fan of ambiguous endings but this was just not it. it wasn't a good ending. and the whole book in its entirety was ambiguous. i just wished more things were revealed to us because it felt, as readers, like secrets were being kept from us and it made it harder to read because there were always questions floating at the back of my mind. I just love this quote becuase wes has been pining after her his whole life, and it really shows just how obsessed with her she is! She’s been worried that her feelings aren’t reciprocated after a kiss, and this angsty love confession was everything I wanted and more! +9

He’s just so silly and loving, he’s probably be great at building it and so much fun to do it to! She’s a hopeless romantic who loves reading, and I woukd love to get her some romance books I know she’d love! She plays piano, and I play violin, so I’d buy her sheet music that matched her soundtracks! +9

(🎁 who was your favorite character? Why?) My favorite character was, is, and always will be (from this series, at least) is Xander. He's so funny yet can be so serious, and while we don't see it, he is broken too. He reminds me so much of Leo Valdez, who I also love, and honestly is just one of my comfort characters. He's not who I ship with Avery, but he's who I ship with myself, he's my favorite Hawthorne brother, and nothing will be changing that as far as I can tell. (+9)

(🎁 if you had to choose a holiday song to base a short story around, what would it be? Why?) Probably 'Santa Tell Me' by Ariana Grande. I feel like Avery + Jameson fit this bill perfectly (at least in this book, definitely not after 'The Hawthorne Legacy'. Avery definitely has trust issues (although they're a bit hard to see in this book) and Jameson is so freaking flighty (as we can clearly see), so I feel like that song would be absolutely PERFECT. (🎁 if you could choose any winter holiday for a novella to be centered around, what would it be? Why?) Normally for these things I say Christmas, but I feel like, seeing as this is THE INHERITANCE GAMES, it seems only fitting that a holiday novella would take place at New Year's. The 4 hawthorne brothers, Avery, and Libby, are all SO enigmatic (along with Thea and Rebecca but we don't talk about them) and it would be so interesting to see them all in the same room celebrating a holiday (probably at some function that Alisa arranged lol) (+9)
(🎁 what character would you most like to build a snowman with? Why?) XANDERRR! First of all: bro is a literal genius. He could probably find a way to make the most beautiful snowman with minimal effort and low amounts of being outside in the cold. my favorite character in this book was cal. I think he really had some good character development, especially in the end. I love how he is with mare. I really wished he had more chapters in his pov. I like how he didn't care about the economy when he let the reds go and be free. I loved the end when he FINALLY gave up the crown. 9pts
my least favorite character is actually 2. it's iris and Anabel ( cals grandma) I did not like iris's povs. I don't like her at all. I thought I might, but she thinks so little of reds so that's why I don't like her. and I don't like Anabel because she's so fricking controlling over cal. like it's ridiculous. I kept waiting for cal to snap at her and tell her to stop, but sadly, it never happened. 9pts

Vivien because she was just so shallow, naive and selfish! She didn't care about the lives of others or the consequences of her actions, all she cared about was saving her family when they were in the midst of a war! She was also supposed to be morally gray/an antihero but that part failed because of how unlikeable she was. I hate how she's an academic scholar but she's so dense and knows nothing of their corrupt society just because she's in an upper-class and not living in poverty.

Like literally everything. The premise was so exciting "dark academia enemies-to-lovers with dragons and linguistics and blah blah blah" and for the first 100 pages it was going so well. But there was no enemies-to-lovers and no character development. I'd probably change it to fit that part and write it so she changes to a rebel like halfway through and not the last 50 pages.

definitely sadie because she's been through so much and i just loved each chapter of her tracking down keith and getting justice for her sister. i also love her stutter and how much she cares for mattie, she was such a mother figure for her and went to such lengths to fake excuses for their neglectful mum so that mattie can be happy and won't resent her.

The ending because we need to know more! seriously i will be thinking about this book for years. the ending could still be sad and tragic but with a closed door. i need to know what happens even if its not happy, give my girl sadie some justice please. idk personally, i found the ending unsatisfying but i guess its okay. i would probably change it to [SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THIS!!!!] sadie getting away with it and maybe changing into her own new identity so that the police don't catch her and leaving a letter to may beth. so at least we know she's alive!!

Hazel because she's just so sweet but serious and I really rooted for her from the start. She did make some um...questionable choices but I guess I would've done the same in her position too. In the end it all worked out anyway but reading this whole book felt like a fever dream. I like how she's so courageous and carries out her destiny with determination.

(🎁 who was your favorite character? Why?) I'm almost certain it's Teddy, although I'm not sure. None of the characters really spoke to me, even Lila, who, as our MC, I wish I connected with. Unfortunately, while she is a total book worm, she only reads holiday books, which I do not relate to AT ALL. this is only my 3rd holiday book, and the 2nd one which I have rated under 4 stars. Anyways, Teddy or Carm are probably my favorites. (+9)
(🎁 who was your least favorite character? Why?) This is another hard question. I didn't find myself particularly hating anyone in this book. No one is really dislikeable, honestly, and though I find books often more fun when there's someone I dislike, the fact that there wasn't any character to hate was honestly kind of a breath of fresh air that I desperately needed while in the midst of reading many books with MANY hateable characters. (🎁 if you had to choose a holiday song to base a short story around, what would it be? Why?) So honestly, obviously this book is just one big holiday book in and of itself. BUT I think I'd choose 'It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas.' The book is set in a town that is REALLY big on the holidays, and of course it snows quite a bit. So of course it would be looking like Christmas, and I think it would be fun to write a story where Lila returns from Syracuse with Teddy and enjoys the holidays in Holly. (+9)

Due to this book being a romance already centered around Christmas, I'm going to have to say Valentine's Day. While I think this is a pretty self-explanatory answer, here's my reasoning: Teddy and Lila are VERY cute together. I can already picture in my mind Teddy announcing that he read 1-2 holiday romances for Lila for Valentine's Day and Lila agreeing to go rock climbing. It would be adorable. (+9)
(🎁 what was your favorite quote from the book? Why?) 'You are not a burden. Your dreams aren't burdens either.' This quote feels like it was spoken directly to me. At a time where I feel like I can't/wont be able to do what I want to do the most (be an author) or that that dream might hurt someone I love, this quote came into my life and spoke directly into my soul. If you are feeling the same way, this quote is for you. (+9)

We could just chill and complain about being cold together, but at the same time I think we'd actually enjoy each other's company while doing smth fun. I rlly did love her character and building a snowman with her would also be a great way to get to know her more. (+9)

I will do anything I can to get people into reading, and if I could shop for Teddy and buy him the right books to get into reading, I would be ECSTATIC. Then we would write reviews about the books and discuss with each other. As Lila stated in the book, 'bookworms really are the best people'. And Lila is one of the best bookworms. She would be so fun to do smth like this with. (+9)
(🎁 what would you change about the book? Why?) I really wish we had gotten more of a resolution. I understand why Tif Marcelo chose to end the book where she did, however I also believe that we didn't get enough fleshing out and I would love to know more about the following: Lila's interviews; Teddy's parents' reactions to the rock climbing; the Syracuse financial aid; Lila's blog. There is so much more that could be explored and honestly I was let down. (+9)
(🎁 would you gift this book to a friend for the holidays? Why or why not?) Maybe, if they said they wanted it or were in the mood for something like it. It wouldn't be my first choice of book to give someone, but if it was the right person and I was given the right incentive, I might just agree to it. I just don't know if there would ever be a circumstance where a friend of mine would say they wanted to read this - honestly, I probably never would have read it if it hadn't been for my obligation to my book club lol. He's a super minor character but he's definitely fun and chill and it seems like we could get into the vibe. Also, though, I will say Lila's family had that whole karaoke thing going on...but that's less of a vibing thing and more of a game thing. So, yeah, probably KC. (+9)

I live in the 'north' I suppose (its north relative to the rest of the US) BUTTTT I can't really see myself doing any of this stuff. As the majority of you voted for a 3-4 week challenge, this challenge will last from December 1st, 2024 to January 1st, 2025, to usher in the new year!
