Sara Kreps | 108 comments may I petition that we rename the historical category? while I don't disagree with your classification at all, I was not prepared to start my Monday with a year I remember well being called historical. 😭

LOL!!! I'm (almost) totally with you!

I was just talking to my brother and sister about movies we saw at a theatre 40! years ago. I'm not old enough to have done that!

Still, I'd rather feel a bit old reading a book specifically set in 1989 than to seek out something I consider "historical"--which like you I consider something set 20+ years before I was born. I'm not really an historical mystery reader, though I have found a couple cute series set in the early 20th century if I really need to hit the goal.

Most cozies, even ones written in the 60s and later, are kind of timeless (disregarding advances in technology, of course) unless given a specific era/time setting. I was so happy to find the Joanna Campbell Slan series The Friday Night Mystery Club, which give the specific setting of 1989. Modern yet "historical" at the same time. I do the "A" version of the challenge each year, but check to see if I hit the "B" version. I only made it one year reading books from that series--and yes, I thought "historical"???

BTW... I added your "historicals" to my TBR! =o)

LOL I am with you; I remember the 90's like they were yesterday so to me, definitely not historical but I really struggle with historical cozy's so this is my loop hole :-)

What I do like about this series in particular is the references to technology (cellphones, computers, etc) are not here so me they are not "modern".

But yes, I am stretching it and goin by the word of the description lol

lol I hear you Karen; I find this category the hardest to fill each year when I do the challenge. When I came across this series I was like "win" lol

My response above covers my view point which is similar to yours.

I will take a look at your suggestion "The Friday Night Mystery Club" as I will need a new one soon.

I would go for a rename of this section as well; even if it was just read a book written prior to 2000 (or prior 1990) whatever year we are picking as the cutoff.
