Nice list. A Dog of Flanders sounds good. I'm careful about children's books, but I might like to try that one.

It's very old and the book is more like The Little Match Girl. It's not sugar-coated. It's less of a "children's book" I think than a book about a young boy.

However some of the film versions have changed the ending. I've been wanting to read it since I saw the 1959 Disney version as a kid. I more recently saw the 1924 and 1935 film versions and only then realized how the Disney one took liberties with the novel.

I enjoyed reading through your list. I like how you have some books published in the 21st Century. I haven't read any of those authors yet and it's good to hear about them.

Islands of Abandonment: Life in the Post-Human Landscape has gotten great reviews and the subject matter fascinates me, as mix of my interests in science and art. The way life adapts and also the strange beauty of "involuntary landscapes" or "involuntary parks."

And I already read the first in the Winternight trilogy of which The Girl in the Tower is the second.

Klowey, I have so far read two works.
The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories. I need to reread to review. Like her Wise Children book, these stories are about people who are complex and whose feet are earthbound.

Wise Children which is her last work and is absolutely wonderful--masterpiece. I suggest read this after you read other works of hers.

I want to read
Angela Carter's Book of Fairy Tales. I will add this to my list of books to read this year. Good reminder!

I just saw that she wrote The Company of Wolves! I loved that movie. That collection looks great.

Looking for copy of The Company of Wolves. Then afterwards see if I can find the movie. Thanks!. . . .It's out of print. Drats. Maybe just the movie.

It seems that "The Company of Wolves" is actually her story of "Little Red Riding Hood" that appears in The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories.
