Freya is a shield maiden and has hid her god quality from the world until she was about 19 or 20. Bjorn is a fighter that wields fire. The book is about Bjorn's father taking control of Freya and marrying her due to a prophecy about becoming King of the Northern tribes through uniting them using the shield maiden. We find out Freya actually has 2 goddesses that contributed to her nature.
This is book 1 in a duology. Book 2 will come out in May of this year.

The main character is a "cutter". Her sisters are a weaver and a person that can stretch the threads. They are called moriae -born and represent the Fates. Io is the cutter and she has to work out what is causing people to lose their life threads and become wraiths. There is a battle with 3 gods (horae - time control past present and future) in the end of the book and Io must make a decision to control her fate. This book is the 2nd in a duology.

Meets Henry who is researching a lost bookshop and books and they stumble onto Opaline in a photo. At the end the bookshop makes itself known to Martha and is no longer lost.

He was able to get off into his survival raft and get back on the boat before it sank completely and grab is survival emergency bag. He floated across the Atlantic for 76 days before ending up in the islands of Guadeloupe. This book recounts his harrowing experience and how he encountered issues with his equipment and nature.

I really liked this book when I read it several years ago. Such a crazy story! He survived so much. I hope you enjoyed it.
I just finished my 6th book too, and it was about a shipwreck and a crew being castaway for 2 years.

It was a crazy story and he had a lot of luck.

This book is a historical and biographical look at the life and work of Marie Curie and how she won 2 Nobel Prizes, made discoveries that changed the world for good (medical use - x-rays, mobile ambulance in WWI) and bad (many of her discoveries about radiology were used by others for weapons), was the first woman professor at the Sorbonne and led a lab that enabled many women to have a career in physics and chemistry that they may not have otherwise had. The book discussed her family as well - her 2 daughters particularly- and how they were inclined - one to science (Irene) and one to music (Eve). Irene and Marie died as a result of diseases that were attributed to their exposure to radiation, while Eve who never worked in science or in the lab lived to be 102 years old. It was mentioned in the book that Marie even had a notebook where she tracked the children at young ages and recognized that one child was the radiation exposure and the other the "control" that had no radiation exposure.

6. This book is a history of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and some other western bandits and the Pinkertons that chased them. The outlaws from the Hole-in-the Wall Haven. This audiobook is narrated by a man with a gravelly, western accented voice. It was hard to listen to with any amount of focus. It may also be because the author Tom Clavin is just giving chapters of facts without really writing the history into a "story" delivery method like Erik Larson does. I have read other Clavin books that were not this dry.
Was the narrator Johnny Heller? I've listened to books he's read and enjoyed them.

The author lays out what is known of women pirates from previous history of pirate books and stories that have circulated throughout history. She reported on pirates from the whole world including China, New Zealand, the US, and UK. This book was not written well or engaging or something as it took me 3 months to read.

6. Rob Sanders is the villain in this book. He is a man that buys companies to bring them to their greatest potential and then sells them to the highest bidder. He did this in the book at the start of Covid in NYC with a food company. Jamie is the main character and is fired by Rob in the beginning of the book but is told he could come back as a delivery man for the food app (after giving Rob ideas on how to improve the business for the upcoming pandemic -supply/demand). Jamie delivers food to a man and ends up being offered a job with the Kaiju Preservation Society. He takes the job and while at the job performing his duties, Rob shows up with a group of dignitaries and attempts to go outside approved boundaries. Rob leaves but later when a group of Jamie's fellow employees are killed and one of the Kaiju goes missing, we find that Rob is behind this and has plans that could destroy the earth inhabited by humans.

6. Book is by a Norwegian man, Erling, that talks about his unassisted trip to the North Pole in 1990 with his partner Borge. They were first to reach North Pole without aid of dogs, food/supply depots, and motorized aids. They skied to the North Pole. The book gives their story but also the history of other adventurer/explorers who have attempted to reach the North Pole. He talks about the different ice, water, the polar bears and how there will soon be less and less ice in the summer around the pole due to the warming of the area and how countries will be fighting to control this open water passage that will develop.

6. Memoir of actress Joie who was an only child and had issues fitting in as a child. Her parents were Christian and her childhood involved moving a lot, trying to fit in at new schools, dealing with her being different than other kids (undiagnosed ADHD, OCD), and wanting to belong. She started acting at 12 and by the time she graduated high school her parents divorced and she was on her own. She started going to a bible study with friends in California and the Pastor and his friend's wife proceeded to tear her down (she didn't realize this) and make her dependent on their group as a "family" that she never had using God and what He would want as the impetus for controlling her. She moved in with them in Idaho, worked away from them for 10 years in NC off and on, eventually married the son and then realized they had stolen all her money and they were a cult and was able to get away from them.

6. Louise and her brother Mark's parents die in a car crash in Charleston, SC. Louise flies in from San Francisco after leaving her 5 year old daughter Poppy with Poppy's father and other grandparents. Louise and Mark haven't gotten along since Mark was 14 or so. The will leaves everything to Mark. He is going to sell the house and give Louise nothing. Their relatives state they will help him sell the house if he splits it 50/50 with his sister. Upon pre-listing inspection, a cousin tells them they will need to have the house cleansed as it has bad vibes. Turns out it is haunted by a possessed puppet that ends up being the a ghost of their long dead uncle.

Leah ends up being victim to her foster mother's prejudices and is sterilized without her knowledge or consent when she is 16 years old due to her "slow" nature- NC eugenics history.
She wants to go back to her friends at the coast and is driven there by the foster father after a fight. She marries her childhood sweetheart.

While there he finds a murder has taken place and the local gendarme asks for his assistance. The skeleton and the murder end up being connected and this book turns into a historical mystery - WWII - . The murderer is found and the mystery was solved.

Aimee agrees to help him with a photo. She goes to take the information to the agreed upon recipient and finds the old woman dead in her bed with a swastika carved in her forehead. So she is then hired by the same man to solve the murder. She becomes involved in a case that is Jews and immigrants versus the Neo-Nazis and in the end solves the murder and keeps France from a dangerous future.

He meets a woman who also wants to capture one of the men. They team up, call in the FBI and save America from her enemies.

6. DC Ffion Morgan is back and assigned to a case on the Welsh mountain side to find a missing reality show contestant. Part of the area is in the jurisdiction of her former coworker Leo Brady and they work the case together. A man ends up murdered and they are out of suspects until Ffion figures it out and almost dies. Ffion and Leo have a tension and neither one tells the other how they feel. In the end Ffion tells Leo she loves him. Book 3 comes out later this year.

6. A man (papa) and his son are traveling the road to try to make it to the coast and then go south. The world is dead. Survivors are eating people. Food is long gone or hidden in unfound caches. I think they are traveling from Chattanooga area (See Rock City sign) across the Appalachians and on to the NC coast (mention of the piedmont) . Of course the piedmont goes from VA into GA, but as I read it I pictured NC. Papa lives each day to keep his son alive and though he is sick and dying he keeps his son positive (as much as there can be) and tries to help him learn what he will need to know if he is ever alone. In the end the boy is found by good people that "carry the fire".

6. Lauren Olamina is a teenager that tells her story in an apocalyptic California. It is 2023 when the book starts and 2027 when it ends. She is 18 in 2027 and has lost her family and home and traveled north on the 101 and I5 to find a home in northern California with a fellow traveler she met on the road. The book is told as journal entries and speaks about a religion she has come up with and wants to teach the world and build a community around - Earthseed. She learns the good and bad about herself and people but doesn't despair and hopes for a better future.

Dante has run afoul of the local gangbangers and Roman is going to get him out of trouble. In the process, he meets the sister of the leaders of the gang and falls in love. There is a side story about the disappearance of his mother and the thought that the town has about his father's part in her disappearance.

6. The book is told from the point of view of 3 main character women with interludes by 8 other women (dead victims). These women are the woman in the shed (and then when her location or action changes her name changes, for instance the woman in the house), Emily (the next selected target), and Cecelia, his 13 year old daughter. Aidan Thomas is a recent widower that will be moving from the house he shared with his wife because his in-laws want it back. He is also a serial killer with one of this victims alive in a shed on that property. In the end she plots her escape and won't leave unless she can make sure his daughter is safe and he is caught.

6. This book needed an editor. 3 stars. The 3rd book in what I thought is a trilogy but the ending is not an ending so maybe a 4th book will be written. Nyx and her friends are trying to prevent Moonfall. They travel far and wide and battle many creatures. I was not very invested in this book for some reason. The first 2 books kept my attention but I struggled to finish this one and all I could think was finally I am done.
