Middle-grade readers have enjoyed these stories:"New Kid" series by Jerry Craft
"Jack the Bad Crow" series by Holly Jo Flora
"Colby's Adventures" series by Shanley Mahsay
"The Ghostly Adventures of Jamie O'Hare" by C. Wade Jacobs
"Winterhouse" series by Ben Guterson
My nieces read New Kid in school. While I really liked it and also Class Act, they didn't feel too strongly about it either way. I'm sure my nephews will read it in school soon too if they haven't already.
Ms. High School I don't read fantasy anymore... sure is enthusiastic and eager to read Scarlet Morning
It caught my attention in Book Page magazine as well. Niece loved She-Ra (rebooted Netflix series) and
Nimona and thinks her little brother will like Scarlet Morning. https://www.bookpage.com/interviews/a...
Nephew #2 (12) loves anime manga comic series Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, Vol. 1
My brother (Dad) picked up
The Marvelous Land of Snergs to share with the kid. It's a retelling of the story that inspired The Hobbit.Niece is reading/just finished? She Gets the Girl
Sorry I missed this thread until now but ... gee, thanks, my to-read list is getting so ... long .... ;)

Honorable mention goes to my cousin's 8 1/2 year old daughter who told me unasked and unprompted, she likes American Girl books! (Adaptations of their historical character books for younger readers).

Nephew #1, the reluctant reader with the unusual learning style, apparently loved a book they read in school (7th grade?). It was also a movie.
Freak the Mighty! He recanted the whole plot from memory! I was so impressed! It sounds dreadfully depressing and awful to me but the important thing is nephew loved it and remembers it! I just ordered the sequel for him.
Nephew #2, the avid reader, is enjoying the Wings of Fire graphic novel editions. The Dragonet Prophecy
Ah-HA! He IS into dragons! I wondered and hesitated to buy him a cool 3D printed dragon because he changes his interests every few months and I can't keep up. On a hunch, because I thought it was cute, I bought him a tiny 3D printed dragon instead!
One evening around the dinner table and Christmas shopping was made easy!
