Looking forward to this so hard... And I'm excited to force my neighborhood book club to read this in June... I'll be ready for a full reread, I think.

Though it mostly says Dinniman is still working on getting Book 8 ready to actually start, so this isn't a real start... and that "Carl's Book of Boom" is just a working title, nothing really decided yet. Pretty awesome working title, IMO.

Prologue and Ch 1 (view spoiler)[Wow I'd forgotten parts of the last book already. It's coming back with that prologue. I wonder how long until the surprise army adds to the game. They have a lot of pissed off former crawlers to deal with.

I can only imagine what recruitment will look like. I'm sure some idiots will join the other factions but I hope most of the crawlers stick with Carl and Donut. I could see Louis going with Juicebox and the NPCs though.

I love Donut's floor class. That explains the cover art.

He's still on book 5 so even though I have bluetooth earbuds, he's not quite caught up enough for this to work. Great idea though. We are both doing audio so it's a format match.

I considered other books today! I even started one! But I had this just right there and then it was whispersynced and I didn't want Narilka to be lonely! Also through ch 24 and as much as I want to stay up I am really tired so I think I am calling it for tonight. Lots of action so far, lots of laughs, Samantha is a treasure that I adore, loving this so far (big surprise, I know lol).

Through part 2/chapter 55 and the Justice Light chapter (view spoiler)[who is one of the former Crawlers, he was speaking to Juicebox to try to get her to definitely assist Carl and the Princess Posse. There have been some interludes about former Crawlers, some of whom are helping currently and others who died. This has pretty much been all action, I didn't take notes and now I have regrets but I have been loving it. Tina is back! (hide spoiler)]

Through Ch 11 (view spoiler)[Carl's hair growth is hilarious. The book cover doesn't do it justice though it tries lol

I am in love with little Sir Rendlegor :) I could see plushie tummy achers in the DCC store some day.

Carl's reaction to meeting the former crawlers and cookbook authors was perfect. Poor guy would probably have a breakdown if there was time for one. Also, it looks like that lady will help him with the Chi Maria problem. Excellent. (hide spoiler)]

Through Ch 19 (view spoiler)[That was all sorts of fucked up. Poor Katya, I hope her half worked since Carls' kinda did. I can't believe that caterpillar guy killed himself like that. Apparently the author is leaning in to his horror roots. Makes me nervous for the rest of the book. (hide spoiler)]

Through Ch 25 & Milk (view spoiler)[Aww, it was nice to have a flashback with Miriam Dom in it. Pony's goat scream always cracks me up lol I feel bad for Milk, she took a horrible contract that would basically leave her indentured forever since almost no one visits those clubs. I do love how they bend the rules to help crawlers when they can. I hope you don't threaten me or I'll have to tell you some information...

This book definitely has a different feel than those previous since it's now basically a war story. I am both surprised and not that Carl is planning to kill Empress Denadia. Also a little sad. (hide spoiler)]

I was really glad to get that recap in Prologue. I remember when Dinniman had that poll up on the Patreon, so people could vote for whose POV would get to tell the recap. I think I voted for the janitor.

But the best part was meeting two of the former Cookbook authors... I was hoping we might, when one of the Cookbook interludes ended with "location unknown--WANTED" instead of "dead"--and each of these little stories about other edition authors is so heart-tugging... I really hope they can help Carl with Chi Maria, that spider is crazy. (hide spoiler)]

I kind of want the "Goddammit Donut" leggings with all the hearts too lol

I am very sad at the lack of Samantha merch, I would absolutely rock a shirt with her head on it with "I want to kill your mother!" on it lol

I really hope Dinniman does another kickstarter... I missed the first one by about a week, but now that he's got a contract with a normal publisher and has rather blown up in popularity, I wonder if he'll bother? Some of the goodies looked awesome though...

I wonder if there's a place to suggest merch?

I have been putting off posting because even though this was a long book I feel like there was so much packed into it, so many characters and references to prior events, it was a lot. I really wish I had taken notes, as I went along. (view spoiler)[That epilogue! So that Justice guy released all of the gods? Could it be Juicebox and the changelings impersonating them? The Katia thing, man I wanted both her and Donut to live so I am happy she is alive even if she is gone but when she got turned back into a human and was missing all of those body parts? Yikes! And Samantha realizing about her child and sacrificing her body and then immediately causing the next SOS emergency. There was definitely not enough Samantha in the book for me but Donut was on point for the comments and ball busting which made up for it some. And Donut having to get a tattoo OF A DOG was just perfect lol This was definitely violent, the battles were epic and I loved it. Mongo is a father and when he almost died I was scared for a minute but Rend saved the day! (hide spoiler)]

Is book 8 ready yet? I look forward to others posting better than I did so I can comment more lol
