D&D: Chaos Crew
Hello Ladies!Checking in.
It looks like our first task is to pick a team name. Anyone have any suggestions?
Hi everyone! Here are some thoughts. Curious to hear what ideas others have so we can pick a team name this weekend.
Dragonborn Damsels
Dragonslayers
Chaos Crew
Crimson Crusaders
Devine Defenders
Siren Squad
Siren Squad and Chaos Crew are my favorites from your list.I’m fairly bad at coming up with team names
If Catherine has no objection, it looks like our team name will be Chaos Crew! Let’s give Catherine a little more time to share her opinion and then we can post our team name choice as requested by Donna.
I sent a PM to Catherine thinking she may not of realized the team thread was already up.I'm sure she'll pop in soon

Hello! Yay we are all here and have a name :)I'll go post in the Quest thread that we've picked one.
Thank you, Judith. We are now CHAOS CREW!To get into the mood, and because D&D is foreign to me, I watched the movie Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and really enjoyed it. I want to be a Druid!!!!
I'm debating between Ranger and Druid.I've never played actual D&D but I have player computer role playing games like Balder's Gate that are certainly inspired by D&D and follow similar rules.
Been a long though.
I’m definitely a newbie/ virgin to D&D anything so I may need a bit of guidance 🤣 excited to see what happens though.

Hi Chaos Crew... I hope you all had a wonderful holiday! There may need to be a little strategy in deciding each of our races and classes, but after researching which I think would be a good starting point for me (beginner), I've chosen the following, along with the corresponding task/book that fits for each:
Race: Elf (Wood Elf)
2. Read a book with all the letters of the race type you choose in the title/subtitle/series
Elf Dog and Owl Head by M.T. Anderson (finished 1/2/25)
Class: Druid
2. Read a book with all the letters of the class type you choose in the title/subtitle/series
Death in a Budapest Butterfly by Julia Buckley (finished 1/4/25)
Yeah in real D&D it is generally advised for everyone o be a different class. In my experience it matters less for everyone to be a different race but I think we might as well for this game since races have different abilities and I have no idea what's coming for us in this reading game version!I haven't picked books yet but I'll claim Human and Fighter as that's the closest options I have to my current character in my actual campaign!
Race: Shifter1. Read a book with a character that matches the race type you choose
Book: Lost Huntress by Nicholas Woode-Smith. Werewolf/shifter characters in book
Class: Ranger
2. Read a book with all the letters of the class type you choose in the title/subtitle/series (example: WIZARD)
Book: The Hunger of the Gods by John Gwynne. the huNGER of the gods series: bloodswoRn sAga

ok I am going to change from Rogue to Monk. It's in the next book I am reading so it makes sense to change.
Hi everyone!I've finished my race and class books and noted the completions on our team spreadsheet. Hope everyone else is having a great start to 2025 with your books... I'm excited to get into our first D&D task once our team identity is established.
My plan is to have both of mine done on 1/8. I was planning to have them done sooner but I'm using them for another challenge. A bonus week got dropped and both of these books qualify for the bonus so I don't want to finish them before then.I should have everything read but the last couple pages and then I can quickly get them done on the 8th.
Sorry, I hope I don't end up holding up the team. The next few months' worth were announced at the same time so I should have that issue again.
I've got one of mine done and then any of the books I'm currently reading will work for the other task so it's whatever I get read first. Will probably finish one of them by Monday or Tuesday I think?
Do we want to do that whomever is last to finish their books for a task is the one that checks us in for that task? Just to make sure we keep moving with tasks
That works and then if for some reason they can't (not on a computer) post here and someone can do it.I was planning to check us in tomorrow once I can finish mine (assuming everyone else was done)
Erin wrote: "Do we want to do that whomever is last to finish their books for a task is the one that checks us in for that task? I think we've done great getting started and props to Judith for tackling over 1,000 pages right off the bat!
I’ll be done with both of mine in the am tomorrow. Eastern time. One short chapter left on the door stopper and well on the way for the other.
Oh that's weird I remember typing out the quote for it, don't know how it got deleted. I'll go re-add it now
Quest #1
A prized 'sack of flour' has been stolen from you, but you've tracked it down to a highly secure bank. The bank will not give it back to you. Do you give up, or plan a heist?

Minimum 4 books - items should be on covers or in the title
Step 2: Security - security guards & alarms
Read a book with a security guard character (to distract him)
Read a book with the word alarm in the text (to disable it)
{Create your own additional tasks as needed to fit your plan}
Step 3: Execute your plan - tell me your plan
Use book titles BUT please use filler words as needed to tell me your plan. Minimum of 4 books.

I'm currently reading a book that has alarm in the text so I could definitely cover that task. I'll browse through what I have available now to see what kind of cover items I have as well
I am starting this book today with birds large enough to ride on the cover. They can be the getaway mode after grabbing the goods.
I'm also starting
.The main characters are monster hunters but also are sometimes hired as security or body guards. If no one has books for that task.
Could probably work the title into the escape plan as well.
Cover items of sword, maybe some other weapons, body armor
Okay some items I could cover - binoculars for a lookout
a mask to hide identities
scissors? might not be useful lol
a ladder
a knife
a sword
I'll take another look when I get back from a doctor's appointment to see if I have any good titles that could be worked into the plan

I think we should use this as security/body guards as that one seems like it's harder to read for
Judith wrote: "I am starting this book today with birds large enough to ride on the cover. They can be the getaway mode after grabbing the goods.
"I like the idea of the birds as one of our items
I am finishing these todaySo flying things, weapons galore, but maybe we should use the power of being bonded and communicating in our minds from
And perhaps the shadow cape for protection from
I think the objects have to be on the cover so I'm not sure we can use the bonding/communicating in minds
Couldn’t we use it as a task under step 2?Maybe have the task be read a book with telepathic abilities. to allow for silent group communication?
Donna gave us 2 prompts but we need 2 more of whatever we decide (I think?)
I have a book titled, "Lucky" and I'm wondering if we can use that to give us the luck ability? Not sure if luck would be helpful in executing the heist, but it's an idea.Other than that, the book covers currently on my TBR feature books, a set of wings, a ribbon, a goblet filled with blood (could be interpreted as poison?), a bat, a crescent moon, birds, peaches, horses, a unicorn, apple, knife, and a dragon. I'm throwing it all out there to see if someone more experienced than me can say if any of these are tools or abilities that could help us.
Oh okay yeah it would definitely work for the step 2 part I think. I think the two given tasks are the only two required ones but we might as well throw Iron Flame on there for another since it doesn't really work for any of the other tasksSo for items on the cover we have Judith's bird. And then from your list Ruth I like using the ribbon (to tie up anyone we run into) and the knife (for obvious reasons). And then maybe I can do my binocular (for the lookout) book to round out the items?
And then we just need titles to tell the story
