As with last year, 2025's monthly challenges will be a mix of returning challenges, new challenges, and older challenges with a new twist! I hope that everyone will find at least one monthly challenge that speaks to them.
*Note that this year, we will not be doing 'levels' on the majority of these monthly challenges . . . it will just be an 'I'm in!' kind of thing. The exceptions are noted with a 'level up' idea as listed below.

January ~ 'New Beginnings' ~ pick a 'new to you' author, start a new series that you've been really excited to read, or read the debut novel of a favourite author!

February ~ 'L-O-V-E' ~ read a book where at least one of the title words starts with the letters l, o, v, or e . . . or level up by reading books for all 4!

March ~ ‘It’s Raining Cats and Dogs!’ ~ read a book with something on the cover related to rain (a rain cloud, an umbrella, rain boots, etc)

April ~ 'Spring Clean' ~ read a book that has been on your TBR list for more than a year prior to the date of the challenge (so, anything on your TBR list before 1 April 2024 counts) . . . or level up by reading a book that's been on your TBR for at least 5 years (so prior to 1 April 2020)

May ~ ‘Celebrate Your Heritage’ ~ choose a book set in (or about!) one of the countries your ancestors are from, or re-read a book that was pivotal in your earlier life!

June ~ ‘Summer Holidays’ ~ read a holiday themed book . . . ANY holiday will do! (even a personal vacation holiday)

July ~ 'Folks in Uniform' ~ read a book where the main character is 'in uniform' . . . this can include military, but does not need to . . . for instance, a police officer, a doctor, or a chef . . . anyone whose profession brings to mind a specific uniform!

August ~ ‘My Favourite Things’ ~ read a book that has some element of a favourite about it . . . you love the cover, your favourite author/genre . . . the title makes you smile . . . there’s an AMAZING character . . . tell us why you chose that particular book!

September ~ 'Autumn Sweep' ~ sweep through the series you've started and not yet finished, and read the next book in line . . . or level up by finishing out the entire series!

October ~ ‘Men of Christian Fiction’ ~ read books written by male authors

November ~ 'T-H-A-N-K-S' ~ read a book where at least one of the words in the title starts with one of the letters in the word 't-h-a-n-k-s' (I will accept books that start with articles (English ones would be words like 'the' or 'a') for the applicable letter) . . . or level up by spelling out the entirety of the word!

December ~ 'Finishing Well' ~ finish off a series, read a book that you'd planned to get to this year but haven't yet, and get those last-minute challenge books read!

~For those who loved the Spooky Season challenge, I've decided to move this to an unofficial challenge, which will run from 1-31 October, so be on the lookout this coming autumn!~

~For Christmas Reads lovers . . . don't worry, I've got you covered too! I'm not going to make it one of the official monthly challenges in 2025, but will host (in this folder) a Christmas Reads thread that will start on 15 November and run through the end of the year!~

June ~ ‘Summer Holidays’ ~ read a holiday themed book . . . ANY holiday will do! (even a personal vacation holiday)

CF, but…cursing and I still am shocked every time I choose a book from the Christian Fiction genre and find cursing. Also a storyline that at several points left me angry and wanting to DNF, but I continued to read thinking surely no pastor could believe/write this. It was “cleaned up” at the end.

Zahra Bailey | 1 comments Hello everyone!

I’m thrilled to have come across this group and these wonderful monthly challenges—it feels like exactly what I need as I step into a new chapter of life. I recently retired and, after finalizing my divorce, I’ve been rediscovering myself and the things I enjoy. Reading has always been a comforting escape, and I’m so excited to dive back in, especially with such creative challenges to inspire me!

While I’m not sure I can manage a new book every month just yet, I love the variety of themes, and I’m eager to see which ones resonate most with me as I ease back into reading. The May challenge to celebrate heritage caught my eye, as my background is a blend of German, Malaysian, and American influences—I can’t wait to explore stories that connect with my roots.

Another theme that stands out to me is the April challenge, "Spring Clean." I’ve always had a habit of adding books to my TBR list faster than I can read them, so this feels like the perfect opportunity to revisit some of those long-forgotten treasures. The idea of finally picking up something that’s been waiting for years is so exciting—it’s like uncovering a little time capsule.

And the August challenge, "My Favourite Things," feels like it could be truly magical. I’m looking forward to indulging in a book that speaks to me, whether it’s a genre I adore, a cover I can’t stop admiring, or a story that resonates deeply. I already feel the spark of inspiration just thinking about it!

Thank you all for the warm space to share our love for books. I look forward to engaging with this lovely community and exchanging recommendations and ideas. Here’s to new beginnings, both on the page and in life!

Warmly,
Zahra

October ~ ‘Men of Christian Fiction’ ~ read books written by male authors
………………………………………………………………………………………………………
November ~ 'T-H-A-N-K-S' ~ read a book where at least one of the words in the title starts with one of the letters in the word 't-h-a-n-k-s' (I will accept books that start with articles (English ones would be words like 'the' or 'a') for the applicable letter) . . . or level up by spelling out the entirety of the word!
………………………………………………………………………………………………………
December ~ 'Finishing Well' ~ finish off a series, read a book that you'd planned to get to this year but haven't yet, and get those last-minute challenge books read!
………………………………………………………………………………………………………
~For those who loved the Spooky Season challenge, I've decided to move this to an unofficial challenge, which will run from 1-31 October, so be on the lookout this coming autumn!~
………………………………………………………………………………………………………
~For Christmas Reads lovers . . . don't worry, I've got you covered too! I'm not going to make it one of the official monthly challenges in 2025, but will host (in this folder) a Christmas Reads thread that will start on 15 November and run through the end of the year!~
