Christian Fiction with lots of profanity, so many things wrong with this book. I should have DNF’ed after the first few pages.

CF, but…cursing and I still am shocked every time I choose a book from the Christian Fiction genre and find cursing. Also a storyline that at several points left me angry and wanting to DNF, but I continued to read thinking surely no pastor could believe/write this. It was “cleaned up” at the end.

Hello everyone!I’m thrilled to have come across this group and these wonderful monthly challenges—it feels like exactly what I need as I step into a new chapter of life. I recently retired and, after finalizing my divorce, I’ve been rediscovering myself and the things I enjoy. Reading has always been a comforting escape, and I’m so excited to dive back in, especially with such creative challenges to inspire me!
While I’m not sure I can manage a new book every month just yet, I love the variety of themes, and I’m eager to see which ones resonate most with me as I ease back into reading. The May challenge to celebrate heritage caught my eye, as my background is a blend of German, Malaysian, and American influences—I can’t wait to explore stories that connect with my roots.
Another theme that stands out to me is the April challenge, "Spring Clean." I’ve always had a habit of adding books to my TBR list faster than I can read them, so this feels like the perfect opportunity to revisit some of those long-forgotten treasures. The idea of finally picking up something that’s been waiting for years is so exciting—it’s like uncovering a little time capsule.
And the August challenge, "My Favourite Things," feels like it could be truly magical. I’m looking forward to indulging in a book that speaks to me, whether it’s a genre I adore, a cover I can’t stop admiring, or a story that resonates deeply. I already feel the spark of inspiration just thinking about it!
Thank you all for the warm space to share our love for books. I look forward to engaging with this lovely community and exchanging recommendations and ideas. Here’s to new beginnings, both on the page and in life!
Warmly,
Zahra
