"Persepolis" by Marjane Satrapi

My son had to read this book. This graphic novel is a coming-of-age story set during and after the Islamic Revolution in Iran. Told from the perspective of Marjane Satrapi, it chronicles her childhood in a politically turbulent Iran, her rebellious teenage years, and her journey to self-discovery as she grapples with cultural identity and exile.

Satrapi’s use of stark black-and-white imagery creates an immediate and emotional connection to her narrative. "Persepolis" provides a personal and intimate look into the political upheaval of Iran and its impact on everyday lives. It's a poignant reminder of the resilience of the human spirit amidst adversity.

Key Themes: Identity, freedom, political upheaval, and the personal cost of revolution.

Persepolis demonstrate how graphic novels can tackle weighty subjects with nuance and emotional resonance. This is an excellent example of the power of the medium to blend art and narrative into something unforgettable.
