Catherine (semi active) | 3095 comments Exodus 21:15: "Anyone who attacks their father or mother is to be put to death."

Spoiler hides something not appropriate for everyone

What about the Menedez brothers, (view spoiler) What if they lived in Israel at this time- would they be put to death?

Also, Exodus 21:17 😬 (From what I can remember, I haven't, but still)

Catherine (semi active) | 3095 comments So I thought this was a really good distinction that I was reminded of yesterday that I thought I'd write down.

In all the other religions of the world, following the law is a way to get God to do what one wants Him to do- like get into Heaven, have a good life, etc. But in Christianity, the law (ie the Ten Commandments) is a way to please our friend, Christ Jesus, our Father, God. Everyone falls short of the glory of God, of the law, but in Christ, we are freed. I think there are a bunch of verses in Paul's verses about our new relationship with the law. Aw man, Tim Keller said it so much better :/

(Also, does anyone have another pastor that they like to listen to or read? I really like that TK says everything simply, yet powerfully. My brain is not that great at deciphering dense material, unfortunately.)

Catherine (semi active) | 3095 comments These Bible project videos on Leviticus are really helpful, in my opinion: https://bibleproject.com/explore/vide... & https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wmvyr...

However, in the second video, it mentions (3 min 51 sec in) how being unclean or impure is not the wrong thing, it's entering into God's holy presence when you're impure. What about people who have "defiling skin diseases" for extended periods of time, like the lepers that Jesus healed in the New Testament? Or what about a woman who gives birth to a lot of girls (Lev 12)? Sixty-six days is a long time to be away from the sanctuary and God's presence.

Catherine (semi active) | 3095 comments While reading all of the procedures and rules in Leviticus, it was easy for me to wonder how it all connected to the Gospel, Jesus, and me. This video was super helpful! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2xbe...

Todd Wilson | 1 comments Does anyone in this group read works about the Bible, or commentaries, etc. I am glad to see people who read the Bible, I have read it from cover to cover three times and done a lot of translation work in the New Testament (and Ruth, in the OT).

Do any of your readers rate written works for sites such as Amazon? I am having a hard time getting rated because my little book does not fit any of the genre listings. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Todd Wilson (not the one listed at Goodreads)

Catherine (semi active) | 3095 comments Hey Todd! I would read more books about the Bible if I had time, but I do occasionally read Enduring Word's Bible commentary. That's awesome that you've read the Bible cover to cover three times and do translation work!

Oh, congratulations on publishing your book! That makes sense- do you possibly have a free online copy that I could read? If not, I hope you'll be able to get more awareness about your book! :D Also, welcome to the group:)

Catherine (semi active) | 3095 comments I was wondering while I was reading these books about the significance of unleavened bread and I just happened to stumble across the answer today:

"In the Bible, leaven is almost always symbolic of sin. Like leaven that permeates the whole lump of dough, sin will spread in a person, a church, or a nation, eventually overwhelming and bringing its participants into its bondage and eventually to death (Galatians 5:9). Romans 6:23 tell us that “the wages of sin is death,” which is God’s judgment for sin, and this is the reason that Christ died—to provide a way out of this judgment for sin if man will repent of his sins, accept Christ as his Passover sacrifice, and have his heart changed so that he can conform his life to what God commands."

When I first thought of yeast, I thought about how Jesus compares the Kingdom of Heaven to yeast, so I was a little thrown off XD
