That’s a great start, Vicky, thank you. I have shamelessly copied your book choice! I like Jack London’s books but hadn’t heard of that one. Thanks for the recommendation.

A) Read a book set during the winter:

1. The Dead by James Joyce First published 1914

2. Vitklädd med ljus i hår by Maria Lang First published 1967
The title means "Dressed in white, with candles in the hair" and refers to the Swedish holiday Lucia that takes place the 13:th of December. The book is a crime novel and the murder is committed by a Lucia during Lucia.

Here is an explanation of that tradition (my personal favorite of all Swedish traditional festivities) if anyone is interested in reading: https://visitsweden.com/what-to-do/cu...

B) Read a book that has snow or winter in the title, or a snow scene on the cover:

3. 27 sekundmeter snö 27 sekundmeter snö by Kjerstin Göransson-Ljungman by Kjerstin Göransson-Ljungman First publ 1939

The Swedish title means "Snow 27 m/s" and it's a crime novel set in a cabin in the mountains during a heavy storm in winter.

Sorry, although this book is historical fiction, the details in Goodreads say it was first published in 2013. This group is for classic books, published 50 or more years ago, so your choice isn’t suitable. Please choose a different book.

Thank you, Mbuye. It seems we might read the same book - I was just looking at this one & trying to decide whether to read it again in addition to the book I have already chosen.

message 17: by Mbuye (new)

Mbuye Trisha, I liked the Winter of Our Discontent even more than Grapes.

They are very different, but Winter is worth reading for its own sake.

Michael Thomas Since I enrolled late into this class, I had to pick something quick. Not fast food. Something easy, but still nutritious... "The Snows of Kilimanjaro"?.. Already read it... What other works have snow or winter in their title?... Am I overlooking the obvious?... "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs"?... Well, I've seen the animated Disney movie, but never actually read the Grimm Brothers account. I'm gonna fail this course anyways, so I'll give that a shot.

Actually, it was pretty interesting. Complex, in its own way. Dark. Certainly not the Disney animation we all saw as kids. I would recommend it, if you haven't already read it.

Well, Ms Tr1sha, Ms Jazzy, I know I'm a few days late for World Snow Day, but...

Michael
