I just purchased my attending membership in the last week as well. This will be the first fan convention of any kind I'll have been to, and am looking forward to it. I took the "Single Pattern Contest" to be for some of the creative folks in the community who like sewing complex things. Using the patterns they mentioned as a base to be embellished as the creator saw fit. I think the chance of me participating is quite small. But I look forward to seeing the creations others come up with.
It is still 8 months away, so plenty of time to narrowing down details. But I would be very interested in a meetup. I'm also considering throwing my hat into volunteering for some of my time there. I have mixed feelings about that, since I do have some skills that can help out, but with being my first convention, I would like to have flexibility on what I'm choosing to enjoy as well. We will see.
If I’m reading that right I think you have to make the shirt, too, not just buy one and add a patch.Anyway, here are shirt designs that might inspire crafty people: https://www.bowlingconcepts.com/shop/...
I plan on being at Worldcon this year, as it's in my neck of the woods and I won't need a hotel. Would love a S&L meetup. We should encourage T&V to attend as well! Maybe do a live show from the event.
I was going to start this thread if it didn't exist! The Seattle Area Sword & Laser group would like to meet you! I've approached the Tacoma S&L group to do a meetup in or around the conference, and I'm extending this invitation to any S&L fans planning to come. If you would like to meet with the local S&L fans, please contact me on this thread, or via direct message, so I can get a rough estimate on how many people we need to plan for.
I'm going to try to go, but I don't know what my work or walking situation will be at the time, so can't finalize plans. But I'm really hoping to make it.
I would like to give this tip, go to the Art Show. There will be stuff in all price ranges, and I found it to be one of the best parts of the whole experience,

Well, there are panels with authors to opine upon all things in the genres, but most of them were hit or miss. Then there are Authors signing set by the hour. I used the HelsinkiCon Hockey Jersey to get signed and a few added a doodle, Maybe buy the Con's Tee shirt unless you want to carry around a lot of books. But if you have a few 1st Editions check who is set to come. For the Big Names get in line early. There will also be a Game room with tables set up to play. Last night is the Hugo Awards. There is also a Costume Contest I think on Saturday night, I think.
I will be at WorldCon, I've never been near an S&L meetup before so would love the idea of meeting a few fellow fans at the event!
We should have put out the call to get S&L nominated in the Fancast category. There are so few people voting nowadays that it would only have take 25 votes.
Hi all! I have posted an invite on Discord:https://discord.gg/6PsYyewq?event=139...
But I will post the details here, too:
Sword & Laser WorldCon 2025 Meetup!
The Seattle and Tacoma local meetups are joining up to meet each other and other Shields attending WorldCon in Seattle. We have a private event in the Ravenna Rooms at the Sheraton on Thursday 1:30-3:00 PM. If you are in town, please join us!
Refreshments will be provided! We'll have ribbons! I'm actually very excited!
I feel like I'm being sarcastic when I use so many exclamations, but I am actually very excited!
Please note that this is not listed on the WorldCon schedule, as this was reserved as a private event.
Please reach out to me here or on Discord, if you have any questions or want contact information.

I noticed they have a "Single Pattern contest" https://seattlein2025.org/program-and...
and was curious if there was any interest in putting together a Sword and Laser themed uniform for us Shields. The pattern is based on a 60's style bowling shirt and I think it might be interesting to get a patch or logo to sew on (unless I'm missing the point)
As we get closer, we can start talking about a meetup or birds of the feather group, but I'm thinking the earlier we get talking about a uniform, the more time we have to make one.
