My name is Jordan and I’m new to the group. I love historical fiction and my passion for it was brought on by my studies in college. It happens to be a genre you read a lot as a lit studies student at the school I attended and lucky for me I loved every book.

I write mostly historical fiction. I've taken readers back to Woodstock with Goodbye Emily, to the bright lights and dark alleys of the 1930's with my Jake and Laura series and now to the untamed west in Sundown, which will be released later in the month. Hello, Historical Fictionistas! Pat Murphy here. I'm an author. Most of my books are categorized as fantasy and/or science fiction, but my latest is historical fantasy. Right now, I'm reading my way through Ellis Peters' Cadfael books, an amazing historical mystery series set in the 12th century in England and focusing on a Welsh Benedictine monk, Cadfael, who aids the law by investigating and solving murders. The first book in the Ellis Peters series is: A Morbid Taste for Bones.

Nineteen books in the series and I'm on number 17. I'm worried about what I'm going to read next!

Pat I love the Owen Archer series so this series is going on my TBR. I just checked Amazon and you have a reprieve. They list 20 books in the series. Not sure if that is accurate, but fingers crossed.

Hi! I'm Stacy, and I just published my first historical fiction about a murder set in Antebellum Petersburg, Virginia. I am now working on my second, about a couple from Switzerland who moved to France. He is a Swiss mercenary, hired by France, and his wife runs a coffee house, just prior to the French Revolution. Think spies, espionage. The great thing is that it's a true story about my 4th great-grandparents!

I'm also a big fan of true crime, albeit mostly in the form of documentaries and docuseries, but trying in book form might be interesting. What are some of your favorite HF?

Hi everyone. I'm a writer and an avid reader of many genres, but historical fiction is my favorite. I've written two novels and two books of poetry - the second novel, Magda Revealed, is due to come out in April. Somehow, my book releases have coincided with the new arrival of Donald Trump to the White House, which has made historical comparisons kind of fascinating. My first book was about WWII Germany, and in 2017, when Trump was contemplating having the army march down Pennsylvania Avenue with its tanks, it felt scarily familiar. My new novel is about Mary Magdalene and her life, which also now offers interesting and sometimes horrifying contrasts to what's happening downtown (I live in Washington, DC).
I'd love to think that history can teach us things, but if nothing else, historical fiction is, in these times, a great escape.

New to group. HF is my favorite genre. Enjoy beautiful, lyrical writings, as Shelley Read’s Go As a River. Enjoy reading from different countries: Lisa See, Abi Dare. Housed to read a lot of WW2; taking a break as do difficult. Happy to learn about what others are reading.

As a witch and priestess of the Divine Feminine, I was interested in writing about the witch burning times and bring to light about how "the witches wound" affects women's voices and how we have been silenced collectively around religion. Forgive me, I've been a member of this group since 2020 and never introduced myself! My name's Elizabeth, but please call me Elsie. I write historical fiction set in the early nineteenth century, and that is where my reading focus lies as well: Jane Austen, Mrs Radcliffe, Elizabeth Gaskell, Walter Scott, or books set in their period: Georgette Heyer, the Hornblower books, the Aubrey/Maturin series.

I'm an inveterate comfort reader and rarely start a new book, although I read quite a bit of non-fiction and biography. The Goodreads challenges always make me laugh, because all my life I've been trying to read less, not more! Apart from reading I enjoy music, knitting, cooking, and gardening – or rather, just being outside and listening to the birds sing and watching the plants grow . . . and I am deeply grateful for the great privilege of being able to indulge these tastes.

I registered in this group many years ago but was too busy to follow up. Now, I want to remedy that. I have always loved reading historical fiction but never once imagined that I'd write it. Surprise! I discovered that my ancestors had lived through King Philip's War in 1675-76 and suddenly became obsessed with the period. I finished the third novel in the series, all written about characters who lived through this war, and am working on the 4th and 5th novels in the series now. You might want to check out the third book, Suzanne, The Midwife, which I think is the best one so far.

I am look forward to following through with my commitment to historical fiction and chatting with my fellow readers and writers.

Hi everyone I'm Mary and my love for historical fiction started when I was a teen, although not the only genre of books I thoroughly enjoy but it's one I come back to frequently. One of the books I'm currently reading is Clytemnestra by Costanza Casati. I am listening to The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon at the moment for my book club, and otherwise work through 18th century “papers” of Hudson Bay Company employees for research. My favorite historical non-fiction reads as of late are A Journey by Samuel Hearne and The Company by Stephen Bown. My favorite book in the last year was There, There by Tommy Orange. I'm Kirsty and have just got back into reading again after a break for 28 years raising my 5 children. I'm quite a slow reader so it takes me a while to get through a book - but over the past couple of years I have read my way through all the Ken Follett Kingsbridge series and thoroughly enjoyed them. I am now about half way through Game of Thrones and am hooked - to the point of ordering the rest of the books. I prefer reading an actual book but I do have a kindle and quite often switch to that to read something a bit lighter every now and then... having several different books on the go at once doesn't bother me too much but at the moment I don't want to read anything other than GOT!
I lost my husband 3 years ago and now my children are all grown, the youngest being 17, I am finding I have more time, or maybe the mental space, to read again.
