What reading plans and/or resolutions do you have for 2025?

Examples:
Buy fewer books.
Read 12 more books than my total of 127 from last year.
Finish 17 series.
Read the rest of Lynette Eason's books.

Let's root for each other to reach our goals in 2025!

Michelle | 684 comments This year I plan to buy less books and to focus on reading books I already own and checking out books from the library.

My focus will mainly be on the annual challenges Make A STATEment and Going Colonial. I found a good selection of books in the library for these challenges, many of them are by authors I haven't read. I also have books at home to add to my reading.

For Going Colonial, I'm going to read both fiction and nonfiction. One of my favorite things to do is to focus on a time in history and read the history and fiction together.

My second focus will be on completing the annual challenges 50 States and ABC/123.

I also want to take time to read more Christian nonfiction this year. My goal is to read at least 12.

Crystal | 781 comments This year my goals are:
*Try really hard to choose books already on my TBR to fit challenges.
*Finish series I've started and have not completed-about 21 series!
*Focus on authors I want to complete.
*Read more from my I Own shelf, because that was a goal I did not do well with this year.
*This is embarrassing but I have not met my reading goal last year or this year and it's a direct reflection of social media time. Social media is bad for my mental health and reading is so good for my mental health. So I'm keeping my goal the same, 120 books, and am striving to focus on reading books and limiting anxiety inducing and bad news streaming social media.

Hannah (bookwormhannah) | 1150 comments For January, I intend to read at least 20 books that have a likely chance of being five-star reads. I’m starting with Witemeyer’s newest, which should definitely be five stars.

Karen | 1395 comments I've been thinking about this, especially after looking at my 2024 goals and realizing where I came up short. In 2025, I hope to focus on the following goals:

1. Read through the Bible in one year with friends and family.
2. Work on my planned in-depth study of the Old Testament
3. Try and finish most of the series that I started in the last few years.
4. Read more Biblical fiction
5. Focus in January on finishing the books I didn't get to from my 3 lists for the Listopia challenge as well as finishing Tumbling Titles
6. Try and focus my reading on the challenges I choose that will challenge me to explore new areas of interest.
7. Have fun and enjoy the books I find

Jan | 189 comments Happy New Year everyone! I liked reading everyone's goals.

My goals:
1. Reread the rest of the AD Chronicles Series by Bodie & Brock Thoene
2. Read through the Bible in one year again with my daughter & my husband. We use the M'Cheyne plan, which I like more than chronological plans.
2. Read my own bookshelf: Spend at least 2 months of the year reading ONLY books we currently own (print or eBooks).
3. Read at least 100 books.
4. Finish the Readers Hall of Fame challenge that is held each year by the elementary school where I teach. (Read 50 books with a variety of genres by May 31st)

message 7: by MissyTexas (last edited Dec 31, 2024 04:46AM) (new)

MissyTexas | 251 comments My goals:

Count: Read one book a week or 50 books full year

Challenges:
Annual: Monthly, Genre Match, Complete Series, Audio, Ebook
6 Month: Let’s Bake and at least one in second half.
Quarterly: Pick at least two during year
Book of the month: Join at least one, trying not to over commit
Reading Buddy: Join at least one, trying not to over commit

Trying not to over commit, I read 64 books in 2024, and 65 in 2023 including a few short stories.

Purchases:
Update Goodreads with acquired books already in my library.
Buy less, reduce TBR listing.
Obtain next in series books that get published in 2025.

Other goals:
Try to pick books that fit multiple challenges

May add more as your lists inspire me..

Stick to only buy new release that are the 18 book listed on my pre order list.

Sarah Sundin
Pepper B Basham

Simone (simonec75) | 316 comments My Bible goal is to read through the entire Bible but don't feel bad If I don't make it in one year or pressured to continue reading when the Lord tells me to slow down and dig deeper into certain verses, chapters, or books. I also want to read more about my spiritual gifts. I retook the quiz yesterday to see if there have been any changes. The Lord actually switched two of my gifts in their ranking. I would like to read about and study my new #1, which is "exhortation."

My general reading goals are:

- Read more ebooks and printed book than listen to audiobooks or - which is super fun - listen to the audio while reading along

- Read all the books from countries the random wheel picked for me to read in 2025 for my personal Read Around the World challenge. In 2021, I challenged myself to read 2 books from each country recognized by the United Nations (1 for the setting and 1 for the author). That makes 386 books at the moment (193 countries). I have read 168 books so far, and it's been eye-opening. I have learned a lot. Sometimes I liked the books I chose, sometimes I didn't. There were definitely a few gems that I would have never found otherwise. If you would like to see what I have read so far, here is the link https://www.goodreads.com/review/list... (please be cautious when you browse the list, not all books are Christian books). The challenge has also helped me read more indie books. In 2025, my random picker chose the following countries: Burkina Faso, Finland, Congo (formerly Zaire), Vanuatu, Mauritania, Mali, Gambia, Rwanda, Qatar, and Chad.

- Read more Christian nonfiction than fiction

- Read at least 10 of the 12 authors in the Author Match and all 12 of the genres in the Genre Match

- Have a "Want to Read" shelf here on GR that shows a lower number than it shows currently (12/31/2024: 1337)

Loraine (librarydiva) | 4445 comments My goal this year is to stick to books on my TBR list and my Kindle as they are piled high and deep!

message 14: by Sarita (new)

Sarita | 2302 comments The last quarter of 2024 just got away with me with a new job in the new country - so new routines etc were needed.

This year I am just going to try to do less challenges. And just to enjoy reading and try to read what I have started with series and books I own first before buying new books.

message 15: by Dave (new)

Dave Barlow | 2 comments 1. I would love to read 52 books.

Me too, Michelle!! I LOVE doing that! I will also be focusing on Going Colonial this year as my primary reading goal! I'm also looking forward to Through the Decades and resuming 50 States after a few years break.

Other life goals for this year include:
1) Sorting through the backlog of artifacts/archival donations at the local historical society where I serve as President/Curator/Archivist.
2) Create a website for the local newspaper where I work as Owner/Editor/Publisher.

message 19: by Leona (new)

Leona (mnleona) | 37 comments I set a goal of 50 books to read and want most of them to be what I own. I am doing some challenges on GR and my local library is always doing challenges.

message 20: by Wendy (last edited Jan 16, 2025 07:18AM) (new)

Wendy Andrus (wendykaye) | 36 comments My number one goal this year is to maintain my first-ever reading journal.

Second goal is to actually complete my books for review before the reviews are due.

I have several challenges (probably too many) I'm attempting. I'm not going to pressure myself to complete every single monthly read for every challenge.

I started a YouTube channel (first video was posted on my birthday). So I want to focus some time on keeping up with that, hopefully posting at least once a week.

I removed the Facebook app from my phone, so now I have to be more intentional with time spent on Facebook (via computer or tablet).

Oh, and I'm aiming to read 100 books again this year. Also, I am reading through the Bible again this year (actually, listening, via YouVersion Bible app).
