This is the first book in the Cormoran Strike series, and I am excited to finally get round to reading it. Strike is hired to investigate the death of supermodel Lula Landrey when her brother does not believe that she committed suicide as ruled by the police. I really liked Strike as a character, and I also like the relationship he had with Robin, his assistant. Despite being quite a long book, this was a quick read and the complex plot had lots of twists to misdirect both the reader and Strike. The ending did surprise me, but I enjoyed the investigation, and I will be continuing with this series soon.

I am addicted to this series, in spite of the weird views of the author on social issues. The characters develop a lot through the series, and the books get longer. I started on audio so now that's the only way I do them, even at 30 hours. There was a British TV version of the first few books, which is quite good. I got it from my local (US) library.I like that because of Strike's injury, he isn't a superhero like many crime heroes who always win fights or overpower bad guys. Plus he has plenty of other flaws, but I adore him and Robin (my name! still not that common for women in Britain.)
