message 36: by Mary (new)

Mary | 4 comments Finished The Truth and I think I enjoyed it even more than I did when it came out. Although it also made me feel a little old, I can’t believe it’s been 25 years 🤣

I know a lot of people think that it’s a book you can’t enjoy unless you’re already Pratchett-savvy but I disagree. I think the satire would sit well with anyone who’s that way inclined but I would agree that if you know your way around Ankh-Morpork already it adds something a little special. For me, the minute I put it down I wanted to go back and read the City Watch arc (and the Moist von Lipwig trio) again.

‘The Truth Shall Make Ye Fret’ couldn’t be more accurate right now and the anger about injustice emanating from William de Worde is so well written. Idealistic but not preachy. Still love Sir Terry’s male characters, I was always struck with how different they could be from a lot of toxic male leads in fantasy novels. Big fat five stars from me, would recommend to all and sundry ❤️
