2025 Reading Challenge discussion

I set a goal last year of reading 100 books and only made it to 22... I think. New year, same goal, except I have more books to read and a better reading journal set up so here's to a new try.
I don't count DNFs toward my reading goal.

I already DNFed a book. It's barely been a day! Here's hoping the rest of the books are better.

Yay! Finished 1 book.
The Orc and the Innkeeper

So much different from a "typical" Orc romance. The FMC slowly got on my nerves throughout the book, though. Cora Crane is probably going to be one of my favorite authors if her other books are like this one.

While reading The Spellshop, I've come to the realization that when it comes to fantasy works of fiction that I have more patients for the details than I do for books with 'normal' people that are based in reality. Like when I started reading The Secrets You Keep, I DNFed it because I thought there was too much pointless detail and, to be fair, it was a mistery and I want them to jump right to 'we need to figure this out' rather than building it up to that point.

I still think what color of tulips and how many in which room and how the place settings were, is too much detail. (I'm not letting that go)

It just made me realize that my 'open-mindedness' isn't as open as I thought it was.

Well, I'm a little behind on updating but I've finished two more books and made reviews for them.
One of Us Is Lying
Frank Herbert's Dune: The Graphic Novel, Book 1
One of us is lying was alright, not great but not bad either. And the Dune graphic novel was one of the most boring graphic novels I've ever read.

yeay! Finished The Spellshop. Still a little behind but I've got several books planned out and ready to go for next month.

Low-key, kinda annoyed with myself that I could read this book almost literally front to back in a day and I just... didn't. -_-

And finished another one. This time it was Bride. Not a bad book but also not one I'm going to be rereading. Typical vampire/werewolf type with the fated mates trope and close proximity trope.

Hi Sylvia! I hope the new reading journal has been a help. There is nothing wrong with having to DNF a book. Life's too short to waste time on a book that you don't want to read! I'm glad you're figuring out what kind of books click for you. Hopefully, that'll help you avoid books that you'd end up having to DNF.

Thanks, Jenn! I really appreciate the positive comment! ^_^ It took a couple of tries to set up my reading journal in a way that makes me WANT to fill it out (I don't like putting in summaries or thoughts). And I have been expanding my reading way more than I would naturally thanks to the monthly reading group thing, which I'm glad for. This reading group is awesome.

FINALLY!! After FOUR MONTHS of being in a reading slump. Like, not even feeling the urge to pick up a book, I finally have again. February just slammed me into the ground and said 'no', when it came to reading. Yay!

Just finished The Strength That Stays. It wasn't my normal read and had a lot of religious aspects of it, but it was alright. Not something I'll read again, but I don't regret reading it. I liked that it was written in a poetry format. made reading it a lot faster and easier to read so I didn't feel like I was struggling to stay awake.

That's awesome! I'm terrible at filling out journals. I always start with the best intentions for a couple of days, and then.... invariably I forget.

I'm so glad that the group reads are helping expand your reading. I totally agree, this reading group is awesome. 😁

I forgot to add this one to my challenge. I'm starting to think I might have bitten off more than I can chew but I'm still going.



Such a fun read. I love A. Lee Martinez anyway but if anyone wants to try reading this one. The FMC is the minotaur and there's an Orc biker gang... and Franklin. It's funny, adventurous and fast-paced.

And I've got another one. This one I actually finished this month. yay.

It was better than I expected, which is awesome because I got this book at the dollar store. You can find some pretty good books there, every once in a while.

This was a quick fun read. It reminded me of a more mild version of the Goosebumps books.
