Official All About Uno Rules and Information Thread
Expectations
β Check in once a week on the team thread, so that we know you are actively participating, even if you have not completed a book.
β Only books started after the challenge starts can count for this challenge.-All finished books must be marked as read and must be on your Uno shelf.
β Friend all the members of the team or make your shelves public so that your captains (MN Lisa and Kirsten) can verify your completions and your team members can find Reverse books.

I am a spreadsheet fanatic. I get a bit obsessive. Feel free to complete the spreadsheet as you are comfortable. I will be keeping it up to date with posts, so if you don't like spreadsheets, selection and completion posts in the thread are just fine. You do NOT need to do completion posts if you are using the spreadsheet, and you do NOT need to use the spreadsheet if you are doing completion posts.
Fill out the (Month) Books with the book information available. Columns B is completed with the Code from the (Month) Hands and then E-AH (Book, name, completion date, pages, and then any of the criteria the book fits).
The spreadsheet has been optimized to make moving books around super easy. There are ton of formulas in place so that the spreadsheet handles what is needed to qualify for which card.
Column A is for Captains after we have confirmed the book is on the shelf. Column AI and after will help determine which cards are available to be used.
The (Month) Hands sheet is where we complete the UNO Hands. I have formulas set up to pull the information from the (Month) Books and populate the data in there and help the captains to complete the official spreadsheet at the end of each round.
Fill this out as you are comfortable, but know that we may move books around as needed, especially towards the end of the round to maximize the points we get.
I want people to read and have fun as a group. The spreadsheet relaxes me at the end of a long workday. It does....I promise.
Please fill out the book, the date read, and anywhere the book could possibly fit. Besides color cards, don't worry about planning for a specific card! Give us all the options by selecting a "how" it fits and filling out the reason and Kirsten and I will move them around to make sure everyone's books count! For "reverse" the reason just has to be the name of the team member who read it.
The only cards we want to make sure we plan out beforehand are the color cards so those will be at the top of each spreadsheet to make it easier to see that we've completed them!

If you are not able to use the spreadsheet, we will need the following information posted in our thread to be moved into the planning spreadsheet.
Sample Completion Post
CARD:
HAND:
BOOK:
PAGES:
COMPLETION DATE:
HOW IT FITS (every option, please):
When you are posting your completion post please post all cards the book works for.
You do not need to post a completion post in this thread if you are able to add to the spreadsheet on your own - this is only if you do not want to or canβt use the spreadsheet.

Arbook Finder to verify book length:
Children's Books that have verified length
Uno Blue Ideas Shelf
Uno Green Ideas Shelf
Uno Red Ideas Shelf
Uno Yellow Ideas Shelf
For the color covers please be aware that different editions have different color covers and you will need to post the color cover that you read. If the Italian cover is yellow, you need to read the book in Italian to count it!
Practical Colour Cover Guide
The general agreement on colours is that
β We use our eyes and common sense
β If you are uncertain about the colour percentage, you can use tineye to verify if it's over 50% (avoid using TinEye to figure out what colour it isβitβs better for us to determine that ourselves)
β When in doubt whether a cover is one colour or another, please consult us. We may take this to the Captains' group for a final decision.

If you haven't played before, welcome! If you have, welcome back and to our team!
UNO is a fun team challenge; some of it is luck (just like any card game, we can only play the hands weβre dealt) and some of it is strategy. But mostly itβs a good way for us to read books we might not otherwise, clean out our TBRs, have some conversations about what weβre reading, and make some new friends. Lisa is one of my best GR buddies, and thatβs because of challenges like this one.
I'll generally do a check-in every Friday to see what we've been reading, post any new information, update our progress, etc. I'll use this image to announce those posts:

You can respond to that post or check in other ways, but be sure to check in at least once a week.
Please take a moment now to check in, share your UNO shelf, and let us know a little about you.

I have an awesome daughter finishing her senior year of high school (and her daddyβs pretty cool, too). I read about 60% MM romance, 20% mystery/thriller, and 20% literary fiction. My favorite genres are MM historical and anything with hockey. I also read quite a bit of fan fiction.
How about you? Who are you? What do you like to read?

Anyway. Iβm Lisa. I work as a Product Manager for an EMT/Firefighter Software Company in Minnesota. Iβm married, have one 20 year old daughter and my wonderful mother is on this team, so you better be nice to me. π€£
I read 98% MM Romance. I like that they do not take a lot of brain power to enjoy. I read just about any genre within that.

I read historical, crime, mystery, thrillers and some other stuff. I have learned that there are a million books out there to read, so if I'm in around a 100 pages and am not enjoying the book, I stop and start another, Unless of course I know its needed for a challenge.
Another thing about GR is it has opened the door to new authors I never would have read. I had to add them to my favorites list, which gets longer and longer. Pretty soon, I'm will have to rate them from 1-1k, so I keep up with all the new books that come out.
Looking forward to my second UNO challenge. Go TEAM ALIEN!
https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

Have you seen Alien? If yes, how many Alien movies have you seen?
I have seen them all but the latest, Romulus (and it's on the list).

Im Janine from England , so im usually off to bed just as the partys getting started ππ
I work part time at a coffee shop, foster guinea pigs for the RSPCA, enjoy music, bird watching , photography ....but mor than anything im a huge book challenge addict ( but then i suppose we all are π)
I read main MM romance but am a memeber of 2 library book clubs so do venture away occasionally.
This is my 5th time playing , its great as you can fit books from other challenges into this one ...until the mini challenge opens π³π³π³

Yes, Janeylou, but please donβt claim more than one each of the color cards until everyoneβs checked in and had an opportunity to see what we need. Thank you and welcome and we can always sort the SS for you!

At the moment I'm fighting breast cancer, so I am sometimes more and sometimes less active. Last Wednesday I started a new course of chemotherapy, which is much more exhausting than the previous one, but I'm trying to stay positive. π I'm looking forward to Uno, it's a great distraction to be able to read and chat with you! I need my team challenges! π₯°
Lisa and Kirsten, sorry in advance, I'm always very lax about putting read dates on my books. I'm determined to be timely with the Uno books, but I'm afraid you'll have to remind me from time to time..... π

I noticed you have the same book for Blue 2 and Skip....The Spirit Key.

Have i done it all wrong already

I updated so you can see what its like and remove it from the Skip. :)

Well that went right over my head π
Draw 2 is the one i always get confused about
Doesnt it work for 3 tasks in the hand but you dont get the points for the 'draw 2' ..so does it work for Skip as well ??

Rightβcrappy hand, really and so wanted to give folks a chance if they really wanted to grab a color card. Feel free to take a WD4 if you like as well?
And yes, on the draw 2, I think. I donβt like those and have to double check with other captains/ask Amanda.

Hello and welcome, Caipi, and sending love and light.

Ok. i'll have to think about how to get the spreadsheet to work like that. Maybe I'll go back to drop downs before everyone gets used to this.
Those darn Draw 2s.

I work as the director of a community foundation. In my off time, I spend a lot of time reading, cooking, and spending time with friends and family. We live in a tight-knit community, so everyone is close by.
I've participated in UNO several times (its actually my gateway into other team challenges and I'm hooked). I like mystery/thriller, fiction, romance, and historical fiction. I'm not really a big fantasy reader, but I can dabble. I have never seen any of the Alien movies.
Here is the link to my UNO shelf: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...
Looking forward to playing with you all!

I think we all here now and everyone has played before ..which is always a bonus . I remember my first time , i asked that many questions

Please let me know if you have any questions on the spreadsheet. You do not have to use it if you don't want to. Add completion posts here and someone can add it to the spreadsheet for you.
You don't need to do both, just one or the other.
I'm excited to get started.

It's Friday, so I'm just checking in. We are all here and Lisa, Janine, and I have posted some books on the spreadsheet (full disclosure--the three of us play lots of challenges together, and Leanne and Caipi often play with us too, but aren't quite as crazed as we three). There's no rush, but feel free to claim some spots if you've got books you're thinking of.
And a question for the week: have you seen an Alien film, and if so, which is your favorite? If you haven't seen any, why not?
I love Alien: Resurrection, with Winona Ryder and a hybrid Ripley/Xenomorph Queen clone for its total OTT (I have seen them all, except the newest which I think I'm watching tomorrow!).

Ive seen parts of it but it was nevwr really the type of film i wanted to watch ππ

I hope.we.not going to have a lot of sci fi themed books to read for mini

To be honest, I didn't even know the name, had to ask google first....
So no, I haven't seen any of the alien movies and I'm not a scifi fan at all. π
I don't have any books planned for February yet, but will add to the SS as soon as I know some for sure.
I know you three always have lots of books planned ahead but I rarely plan more than my next two books. π

I've never seen any of the Alien movies that I remember. I don't really know why I didn't before cause I like sci-fi. Now, the reason would be because there are so many and I don't like watching only one of something and would have to watch them all and I have too many other things to watch/read that are taking priority. I'm not much of a planner for books. I know of two that I for sure will be reading and then it's just random. I can usually find one that fits a card or category if it needs to be filled though.

I rely on library books a lot, so I donβt usually plan out my books. I can fill in as I finish.

Also, I feel a little weird outing myself as the only Alien fan... oh well. Thanks for checking in, team. This team next week we'll be ready to start.

Hooray! Hooray! We start today!
I skipped the Friday wrap-up because I wanted to post today to welcome you to the official start of UNO, wherever and whenever you are.
On Fridays I will generally check to make sure your books are on your uno shelf with a completion date and do a super quick check that the color matches if it's a color book, especially this first month. If there's anything I have questions about, I'll post here. If you aren't using the spreadsheet, a completion post (like Janeylou's above) works just as well--please be sure to include all the possible cards for which it might be used.
Except for color cards and other specialty cards, Lisa and I may not assign cards to hands until later in the month, and I can promise that we will move things around if we need to in order to complete as many hands as we can (and to maximize things with the mini challenge as well). We will definitely count everyone's books (in the rare case that we have more books than we need, Lisa and I don't count ours rather than not counting yours).
Question for the week (you can answer this or check in otherwise):
What is your first UNO book?
I just read Exhale super quick because I read the first of the series and wanted to keep going.
