I think that it should be fine to talk about in public. I understand that people might get uncomfortable, but I don't understand why.

Exactly.
And it's not like a sexual thing, it happens to every single girl. I do not plan on having kids, and periods don't mean anything sexual to me, it's just my body being its natural self and cleaning itself (though I know it is passing an egg so I could become pregnant but you know what I mean, right?)

I don’t talk about it in front of people I don’t know well, but it’s natural and no one should be grossed out at the mere mention of it

Right
Right
I am a late bloomer and have not yet gotten my first period yet even though I'm already thirteen, and I sometimes want to ask my friends if they've gotten their period yet, but I feel awkward and don't. I'm not grossed out about it or anything, I just don't really want to talk about it to anyone.
I try not to just because im transmasculine and I hate having a period. whenever I talk about it I'm usually joking about how stupid it is or my hormone issues so-

I totally get it. I used to be really scared about talking about it with my friends, in person or online, but once I just found the courage to ask my bestie and we had a wonderful conversation about it that made me feel really confident

Cool. I got mine when I was 12, on Oct 2 last year, and it was the one week in a year my mom had a business trip, so I had to figure it out on my own 😭

which was terrifying for a little trans boy who had never been told what a period was, even though my parents told me what sex was when I was 6 ^^

Like people are ok with children knowing what sex is, but never teach them how to be safe. I didn't learn what a condom was until last year when I saw one in the school bathroom. They don't teach us what we need to know, and things get out of hand when no one will step up and tell me whats happening until I think I'm dying.

e x a c t l yhere in utah its ILLEGAL for contraception to be taught in ANY school classes EVER so we cant even learn from school!

My mom is a worker for teens sexual health, so things like periods, sex, and condoms are kind of normalized in my house. I understand that talking about those things is uncomfortable for some people, but its natural and no one should be ashamed about it.

well, in a lot of lds communities, its normal for girls to get married and have kids REALLY young, like, 19yrs old young.
its kind of a "tradition" or a myth id say, that because in the lds church you cant have sex till you're married, and self love is a major sin, the bride and groom have sex in the car on the way to the reception immediately after getting married-

Ok, so personally i think it depends on who i'm talking to. Anyone female its fine, but i make myself uncomfortable if i talk to a guy about it. (literally the only guy ive talked about it to is my father and he was like "hey you seem upset, are you ok?" and i was in fact upset but my mood was all over that day so i was like "im on my period" and then just moved on).

honestly, I agreed. I feel like there are a lot of boys that make it feel uncomfortable

Yeah that's true but I think it also might depend on who the person is and if they themselves feel comfortable talking about it.

dude i cant imagine how it must feel if someone never told you about your period. You'd think you're dying and its the end of the line (at least id think that)

So the thing yesterday that happened on that forum (mentioned at the beginning of this conversation)... like I knew there were guys and girls on conversation but I felt comfortable around them and considered them online friends. So I just offhandedly mentioned that it was the one-year anniversary of me getting my period, and immediately everyone was like "TMI" and "uhhh weirdo" and one dude literally responded with a screaming GIF. Like I felt awful 😭
