Share any general fiction here that you feel is underappreciated!

Balthazarinblue | 5 comments Let me tell y'all about Fervour: The Secret History meets Jonathan Safran Foer meets The Royal Tenenbaums by Toby Lloyd! It's a captivating look into a family struggling to comprehend and cope with their daughter's decline into debilitating mental illness. The Rosenthals are devoutly Jewish, and the situation causes them to grapple with their spiritual beliefs. Some members reject God entirely while others look to Jewish mysticism for answers.

This reminded me a lot of The Virgin Suicides, in that the story is largely told through the eyes of an outsider, fascinated by the Rosenthals's eccentricity, and seduced by the revelations she believes they can offer her. A large part is set at Oxford University. While this ISN'T a dark academia book, it has a moody atmosphere to it that I think dark academia fans would love.

I've never read dark academia. I think I have a few on my TBR to try out. This sounds sadly fascinating. Am I picking up on the right vibes? lol. Thanks for putting this book on my radar, Balthazar!
