Tara Peace | 347 comments February Mini:

In a galaxy far, far away...

Prepare your tunics and your lightsabers (and maybe a spaceship while you're at it) - for in this optional mini challenge, we will take you across the universe of Star Wars to make the acquaintance of some of the most well-known heroes and villains of the galaxy.

From the below list, your team may pick six characters. At least one character needs to be a hero and at least one character needs to be a villain. The remaining four characters may be freely selected among heroes and villains. For all six of your chosen characters, you will have to read a book for every task.

Tara Peace | 347 comments Hi all - welcome to Team The Expanse! I am Tara, one of your captains - and so excited to be doing UNO again!

Please feel free to add a comment about yourself - where you are, what you like to read, if this is your first UNO, etc.

I'm in Oceanside, CA (North County of San Diego) - I am a librarian. I read just about anything, but have been enjoying thrillers and romantasy a lot lately.

Happy reading everyone!

Shannon O'Flynn | 30 comments Hi everyone! I am one of your co captains! My name is Shannon and this is my first time doing UNO!

Although it is my first time doing UNO, I have done multiple team challenges before in other groups and captained/co captained them.

I am originally from Pennsylvania, but living in Florida for at least 4 months. I love to read mysteries, historical fiction, and horror. Neal Shusterman and Stephan King are my favorite authors!

I'm really looking forward to be doing UNO with all of you guys!

Silje (sikna) | 908 comments Hey!
Looking forward to another round of UNO, one of my favorite team challenges.

My name is Silje. I am from Norway and currently work as a dental hygienist, but I have also worked for a few years in a bookshop. Currently, I'm reading romantasy or mystery, but I usually dabble in many genres.

my shelf is here

Jessica S | 38 comments Hi Team!

I'm your second Co-Captain. This is my first Uno and I'm super excited to get started.

A bit about me..I'm from Cheltenham, England and mum of a 3 and 5 year old who keep me very busy. I spend most of my time reading or on Goodreads but also love fitness and gaming.

I read all genres of MM romance but Fantasy is my favourite.

Gail | 8 comments Hi Everyone!

My name is Gail and I am from Nazareth, Pennsylvania. I am a seventh grade science teacher. I love to read and my favorite genres are psychological thrillers, mystery / suspense, horror, rom- coms, and ya. I have participated in many challenges on Goodreads but this is my first UNO challenge.

message 14: by Kalisha (new)

Kalisha | 127 comments Hi Team

I'm Kalisha and I'm from Trinidad and Tobago. I'm a full time accountant and part time student. Looking forward to playing Uno again, it helps me decrease my TBR pile. I read mainly fantasy. Excited for February!

WitchinglyBookish Hi Everyone! My name is Fallyn and I'm from Pennsylvania. This is my 6th year of doing Uno. I mostly read Dark Romance and Romantasy, but will read just about genre.

message 16: by Lady Tea (new)

Lady Tea | 99 comments Hello everyone! I am Lady Tea (tea as in the drink, not the name, xD).

This'll be my third year playing UNO, and it's definitely a yearly favourite of mine in terms of team challenges! I'm from Canada, and I'm a high school teacher.

In terms of reading, I can read just about anything in fiction, but recently I've been sticking mainly to historical romances and some cozy mysteries. UNO's always a great way to challenge myself in terms of finding specific books for specific tasks (the colour ones are especially fun) and I'm looking forward to another year at it!

Please to meet everyone!

message 17: by MiMi (new)

MiMi | 67 comments Hello all! I’m Mimi from Germany. This is my fourth year of playing uno. I like fantasy and classics but will read any fiction genre.

message 18: by Fi (new)

Fi | 182 comments Hi everyone!

I've lost track of how many times I've played Uno. I read MM romance, my favorites are fantasy, historicals and mystery, but I read a little bit of everything.

Shannon O'Flynn | 30 comments Wooo! We have everyone! Thank you all for checking in so quickly! We're going to have so much fun with this challenge!

message 20: by Lady Tea (new)

Lady Tea | 99 comments Agreed!

I always have trouble with the colour cards, though. Is that rule that the cover has to have more than 50% of that colour, according to TinEye?

Tara Peace | 347 comments Lady Tea wrote: "Agreed!

TinEye is not required - that is a use if you're questioning yourself tool. If you have doubts, post here or use TinEye to check (I like to use it bc I am always on the fence about cover colors)! But the color should be the majority of the cover. Does that help?

message 22: by Lady Tea (new)

Lady Tea | 99 comments @Tara, yes, that helps! It's just super hard for me to find the colours in my to-read books, as sometimes even if something looks green/blue/yellow/red to me, on TinEye it'll say 'gray' or 'brown' instead, and then I'm unsure. >.<

If you're unsure, put the cover in this thread and we can weigh in! I know your pain with the weird color situations in TinEye!

message 24: by Lady Tea (new)

Lady Tea | 99 comments Thanks, always great to get a second opinion!
I'm still searching, hoping as well as I can to plan ahead. ^^

Usually for UNO, whatever books I read, I just fit them in to wherever they may apply. ^^'

Perfect - the more options you add to your book, the easier it is for the captains to place in hands as needed!

Excited to start soon!

message 26: by Shannon (new)

Shannon O'Flynn | 30 comments Hey guys!

Hope everyone's as excited as I am! As a reminder, books MUST be started after the challenge start. I have linked a countdown to the start time below :)

Gail | 8 comments Hi,

Sorry that I am about to take up someone’s time asking this question but I am not sure which card in hand one I should be reading for? This is my first time doing the Uno challenge. I see people have put book titles into our team tracking sheet but I don’t understand how to decipher the team tracking sheet. I am assuming we are all reading for one of the cards listed under hand one in the spreadsheet we have but I don’t see where anyone is marking which they are reading for.
I can find a book to read for any of the cards - I just don’t understand which one is still available to read for? Thank you for any help here,

Hi Gail - basically whatever book you are reading, put on the spreadsheet for how it could fit in any situation. From there, the team captains will put the completed books on the official spreadsheet how they think it fits best.

A good rule of thumb when deciding books, is look for what cards we need the most. This round, 2, 5, Skip and Reverse are the highest count!

Hopefully that helps!

message 30: by Lady Tea (new)

Lady Tea | 99 comments Started putting in my first few books.

Let's do our best, everyone, and have lots of fun! ^-^

message 31: by Kalisha (new)

Kalisha | 127 comments Started reading Onyx Storm today. Excited!!! Let's go Team Expanse (is now a bad time to say I didn't like this show. awkward. lmao)

Hey Captains, I'm only putting my finished books on the spreadsheet. I don't plan to claim any color cards as yet.

Hey Gail. Honestly...since it's this early in the month, I would suggest reading whatever you want. Have fun and please don't stress over choosing a particular book. The captains will assign the book to a card. And then as the month progresses, if they need us to read a certain book/card they will let us know.

message 32: by Tara (new)

Let's gooooooo!

Silje (sikna) | 908 comments Not sure why the cell turned red on the spreadsheet, I wasn't able to take it away, but Magic Shifts (Kate Daniels, #8) by Ilona Andrews doesn't work for colored cover.

It's ok Silje! We will figure it out and fix it

It's not appearing red for me now so maybe it fixed itself

Jessica S | 38 comments If I listen to the audiobook, am I able to use the audiobook cover for the coloured cards? Realised the print might not have enough green to count,

You use whatever edition you are reading, but according to TinEye, neither of them meet the threshold, despite it looking green. We can take it to the mods if you want to tho!

message 42: by Tara (new)

Tara Peace | 347 comments Ok! I switched my green there which means we now need an 8 Green!

WitchinglyBookish I see a few of you have continued reading the Fourth Wing series, so I'm curious have the books gotten less typical with the fantasy tropes? I'm one of the few who didn't love Fourth Wing haha, but I hate not finishing series

message 45: by Kalisha (new)

Kalisha | 127 comments @Silje So i started reading Onyx Storm and realized i remembered nothing about the previous books so i decided to start over with book 1 . lol

@Fallyn-I can confidently say if you weren't impressed with Fourth Wing, you're definitely not gonna be impressed with book 2. Cuz it wasn't as good as book 1. I loved book2. It had some problems but i still loved it.

I re-read the two previous books as well since I knew I only remembered the bigger events and not all the important details.

Looks like Kalisha read it!

message 49: by Kalisha (new)

Kalisha | 127 comments I did! And I liked it. But I was heavily biased. I saw the TV show first and I loved the show. I don't know if I would have liked the book if I didn't watch the show first.
