Important note:
Some books on the color cover list may not seem like the color cover because GR shows the default version, but there may be a specific shelved version that is the actual color. The version you read is what you should shelve, and is what counts, for UNO. Additionally, the color shelves are put together by players, so always double check that your book actually qualifies, because these lists are not mod-approved.

Important rules to remember

πŸ”Ή Only books started after the challenge starts can count for this challenge.
πŸ”Ή All finished books must be marked as read and must be on your Uno shelf.
πŸ”Ή If you're unsure if a cover falls under a certain color, then ask here and we can talk it over as a group. If we can't come to a decision, I will take it to the captains group.
πŸ”Ή Color cards must fit requirements of both the corresponding number and >50% color cover.
πŸ”Ή Books must be more than 100 pages in length and Children's books, Graphic Novels, Manga, Cook Books, Plays and Poetry books can not be used unless by word count they can be verified as more than 25,000 words using arbookfind.com or more than 3 hours of audio using a reputable website (e.g. audible, overdrive). Children's books checked in previous years can be seen on this shelf uno-childrens
πŸ”Ή You must check in at least once a week so I know you’re still actively participating. You can post a book, or if you haven’t finished one, just stop by here and say hi :)
πŸ”Ή Have fun!! It's a social challenge, so we can get chatty. And while we do want points and to finish all our cards, this isn't supposed to be a competitive challenge. So enjoy your reading!

πŸ”Ή Other info
When it comes to cards, I prefer to just read and fill in what is needed rather than "claiming" cards (since sometimes cards need to be shuffled around). However, when it comes to color cards, please do claim those so we know those are covered.

Deanna | 704 comments Hey everyone! Welcome to Team The Martian!!!

My name is Deanna, and I live in Virginia. I have three grown kids and one high schooler that I am still homeschooling in the morning before working a retail closing shift after lunch. This is my 7th year of UNO and my 6th year captaining. My favorite part of UNO is the fun mini challenges that the mods create. I'm excited to see what kind of wacky and futuristic creations they cobbled together while contemplating interstellar travel and quantum physics for thie sci-fi themed UNO.

I read mostly fantasy, science fiction, and mystery genres but have been known to branch out into other genres as well.
My favorite discoveries of 2024: The Vampire and the Case of the Wayward Werewolf (The Portlock Paranormal Detective #1) by Heather G. Harris One More Last Time (The Good Guys, #1) by Eric Ugland
In 2025 I'm looking forward to: War Games (Jacky Leon #11) by K.N. Banet Bonded in Death (In Death, #60) by J.D. Robb The Vampire and the Case of the Hellacious Hag (The Portlock Paranormal Detective #7) by Heather G. Harris

Uno shelf: uno-2025

Andrea (dreakay) | 212 comments Hey Team!!

I'm Andrea and I live in BC, Canada. I work at a public library so I'm constantly adding way too much to my TBR. It's a problem.
I have a husband and 2 furbabies. I've done the UNO challenge 5 or 6 times before I believe and I love it so much.

Love the Sci Fi theme even though I don't read much of it! I just finished Mickey7 though and that was a fun one.
My favourite genres are romance, chick-lit, thriller, horror and romantasy.

My favourites from 2024 were: The Women by Kristin Hannah Just for the Summer (Part of Your World, #3) by Abby Jimenez We Used to Live Here by Marcus Kliewer

2025 most anticipated books: Onyx Storm (The Empyrean, #3) by Rebecca Yarros Sunrise on the Reaping (The Hunger Games, #0.5) by Suzanne Collins Swept Away by Beth O'Leary Say You'll Remember Me by Abby Jimenez

Hailey Thompson (haileymary) | 169 comments Welcome everyone!

I'm Hailey and I'm for Utah. I have an almost nine year old daughter who is my favorite book buddy! I work in Human Resources and I'm in my company's monthly book club, which pushes me outside my reading comfort zone sometimes.

I've been doing UNO for quite a few years now, This is typically the only challenge I participate in because it's my favorite one!
I'm a big thriller, mystery, horror, and historical fiction fan. I'm usually open to reading most genres though.

My favorite books from 2024: The Women by Kristin Hannah Worst Case Scenario by T.J. Newman The Briar Club by Kate Quinn

The books I'm looking forward to the most in 2025: Never Flinch by Stephen King My Friends by Fredrik Backman Good Dirt by Charmaine Wilkerson

Stacey (boydsmom) | 114 comments Hi everyone! I'm Stacey, and I live in North Carolina with my spoiled dog. I'm a physical therapist in a Level 1 trauma hospital, so reading is my stress relief. I read mainly any kind of romance, fantasy, mystery and thriller, but I can read most anything that may be needed in the name of a challenge. I have played UNO before, but not for the last few years, so I may need some refreshing. I am picking up 2 yellow books from the library later today. ;)

My favorites from 2024:
Kingdom of Ash (Throne of Glass, #7) by Sarah J. Maas Slaying the Vampire Conqueror by Carissa Broadbent The Right Move (Windy City, #2) by Liz Tomforde and anything by Elsie Silver.

Anticipated Reads for 2025:
Onyx Storm (The Empyrean, #3) by Rebecca Yarros The Will of the Many (Hierarchy, #1) by James Islington Mistborn The Final Empire (The Mistborn Saga, #1) by Brandon Sanderson Rewind It Back (Windy City, #5) by Liz Tomforde and anything by Elsie Silver. :)

Here's my shelf: uno2025

Ann Sicker | 281 comments Hi Team,
I am Ann from Rochester, NY. I am a retired accountant with two grown daughters. My husband and I love going camping with our very lazy golden retriever Pippa. I think this is my sixth year playing uno. It's definitely my favorite! I would say that I gravitate toward the historical fiction genre.

oooo I didn't know about the new Fredrik Backman book coming out this year! I LOVED Anxious People and Beartown and have been wanting to read everything else by him as well.

Christy (christy_t) | 188 comments Hi All - Sorry for the delay! I was checking in all last week waiting for the thread to open, but somehow missed when it did! Looking forward to Uno starting later this week!

I live in Georgetown, TX with my small dog. I mainly read romance, but will occasionally branch out.

Here is my shelf: Uno

Deanna | 704 comments Welcome everyone! With less than 5 days to go, I'm sure some of you are already gathering books. Here's your chance to claim colored covers or reverses (let's limit to 2 claims at a time). We need:

πŸ’š 3 Green (Andrea)
πŸ’š 3 Green

Post here in the thread to let us know if you have a book for any of these.

If you'd like to add books to the tracking spreadsheet, it is here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

Happy book hunting!

message 22: by Hailey (new)

Hailey Thompson (haileymary) | 169 comments I have two 9 Blues that I can work on this month to start. I can also look through my books to see what else would fit after everyone has the chance to claim the cards they want.

Denise | 170 comments I can take the other 5 yellow

message 24: by Christy (new)

Christy (christy_t) | 188 comments I'm in a couple of other challenges, so I tend to decide as we go along. Plus whenever I decide on books, I seem to gravitate to books that leave me thinking, what is this fresh pile of garbage? It's a curse, lol.

I'll just slot myself in as we go and find something from my never-ending TBR list.

message 25: by Ann (new)

Ann Sicker | 281 comments I can take red 8

message 26: by Stacey (new)

Stacey (boydsmom) | 114 comments I don't tend to plan very far ahead in what I'll be reading next, so I'll add as I go. I'm looking for a yellow or green that works, but nothing so far.

Andrea (dreakay) | 212 comments Darn I also have a Blue 9 I'm planning on reading in Feb. I will take a look to see if I have any of the other colours!

Grimoire Girl A Memoir of Magic and Mischief by Hilarie Burton Morgan

Yes, both 5 and a yellow cover. Color needs to be 50% or more yellow. Here a list the mods started a couple of years ago to give you some ideas. If you don't find anything, that's fine also just let us know. Yellow is always the hardest I think. Hopefully we won't have as many next month.
