Jason Oliver | 3161 comments Mark Twain, in his funny, free-flowing narrative, tells the story of the first man and woman through excerpts of their diaries. When first reading this, I did not enjoy it as it strongly varies from the biblical account and Adam's and Eve's relationship starts off rocky. However, after researched I came to find that this is a story of Twain and his wife and their relationship that knowledge adds a tender and romantic aspect to these diaries and increased my fondness.

Mark Twain is always a tremendous storyteller.

Theresa | 15961 comments I love this narrative! I also highly recommend thee audiobook read by Mandy Patinkin and Betty Buckley. It was a quick purchase to listen to on a solo wintery drive from Nashville back to NYC and was such a delight. Twain is always good company.

It was also adapted into the First Act of a Broadway Musical called The Apple Tree. I saw the revival with Kristin Chenowith in 2005/2006.

What I have always found so striking is that Twain made Adam and Eve into a believable living married couple, not just figures in a biblical lesson. I did not know that about Twain showing his own marriage through these, but it makes perfect sense.

Amy | 13072 comments I read this - during my year of Eve. I remember really liking it. Although I had a lot of different aspects of her over the year to put together.
