I am in. Haven't read it and don't know too much about it. Another new-ish King book that I get to read. :D
I’ve just finished and I loved it. Wow what an amazing experience that was. You can read my review here if you wish: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I loved this book so much..quite possibly because it didn’t have the elements of the supernatural that you come to expect in SK books. A story of redemption and humans are not just one aspect of themselves.
Such a great read. I’ve passed it on to a couple of non King readers and it’s been a hit for both of them.
A book written from the point of a hitman, eh?Interesting premise and handled very well in the hands of King. Deals very well with issues of morality and the gray area between good and bad people, since the protagonist, is in the middle. King also crafts a strong narrative voice as you would expect.
Some good twists and turns focusing on non supernatural thrills reminiscent of his recent Bill Hodges books. Interesting to see King focus on real-ish crime novels late into his career.
I really don’t think it’s so different for a SK novel. Great story, great character development, and still has an element of the supernatural. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I wanted more.
This book was one of my favorite SK books. He painted the characters so well I felt myself rooting for them. It kept me glued to the book.
Since I first read Billy Summers, I've been interested in Mr. King's choice of the Émile Zola novel, Thérèse Raquin as the cue that Billy may be smarter than he acts (later made explicit in the text). While Therese Raquin is not a novel containing contract killing or organized crime, there's a similarity in the cognitive dissonance suffered both by Billy Summers and Therese Raquin as they confront the moral ambiguity of murder for gain and attempt to justify their own actions. If you've read or have thoughts on Thérèse Raquin, I'd be pleased to hear them. Best wishes.
