Jason Oliver | 3067 comments Though this book is a little bit dated, published in 2001, it does find truths about how a company can move from good to great.

The author focuses on companies that have been successful for 15 years and then out paste the market for another 15 years. Some of the features that Collins identifies for great companies are:
- A CEO not focused on his own image
- A CEO who surrounds himself with the right people
- Putting the right people in the right places
- Having passion for your product and services
- To be steady and focused on your area of expertise
- Willing to take risks and adapt

These are just few of the points outlined in this book and it uses real-life examples of great companies and just good companies in just 2001. Collins does underestimate the role of technology since the .com bubble has recently burst but he does admit that the great companies invest in needed if not sexy technological advancements such as barcode scanners.

Most of these principles apply to companies today, however today most companies start with these principles instead of having to move from good to great
