Avery did an excellent job with the interview. I think he knew if he didn't Sam would have his ass. I was sad that he turned out to be such a horrible person. The early books in this series gave no indication of this at all. It was so sad.

I don't like what Force did with his character either in the previous book or this one. Conklin, along with Farnsworth and Malone, was one of Skip's closest friends and Sam's ally in the department. Conklin suddenly becoming evil had no foundation in the series at all.
Agree. It felt like the author just picked him out as the bad guy. He was a friend of Skips along with Malone and Farnsworth. I just don't see someone doing this.
Maybe if there had been more about Conklin's relationship with the cop turned councilman and his role in city politics also, it wouldn't have been such a surprise. I agree that Force just picked him, because she didn't lay any groundwork for this in the early books.
