This might be a long shot, but I read a series a while back that I loved but now I can't remember the name of it. I was hoping someone might recognize it y what little information I can remember.
It's a book about Fae (or maybe humans with powers) and humans (without powers). The FMC has the ability to get into other people's heads and ends up working for the king. The king is a bad guy so the FMC has to be careful who she turns in. The king uses her to weed out allies. She ends up falling in love with a member of another court who is secretly against the king. The member of the other court is a general who can borrow other people's powers and finds her powers interesting and unique.
I want to say at some point the member of the other court borrows shifter power and the main thing is when he turns into an animal it's always white, white lion and white bird are two animals mentioned.
I know that isn't much to go on but I think I read two similar series around the same time and the plots are getting overlapped in my head so I can't get them straight. This is all I know is definitely from one book.
