One is *probably* a book club book. And yes I believe the count down numbers like Michelle said are printing numbers. Lowest visible number denotes the print number. (So 1 means 1st printing.)
We might be able to help better if you shared what the book was? Or if you don’t want to share, you might Google: “how to identify BOOK NAME First edition” - you may hit on a thread that explains how to identify the differences between first editions and book club books. It’s not always super easy to tell.

They both say they're first editions, but the older copy has a line of text/numbers that the newer copy doesn't have.

I can't find anything about what this line means. Any ideas ?
