SNOW???? Finished These Silent Woods
by Kimi Cunningham GrantMy Review:

R. I'm sorry, I meant to reply but hit delete instead. I've been thinking about re-reading Johnny Tremain. I do own it.
It's not unusual for me to read things that I missed as a child. Including The Secret Garden, Anne of Green Gables, Black Beauty, and the second of the Oz Books.
Today I finished
A Certain Slant of Light: A Novel. I think this would make a good book for a book discussion - a lot to digest. I gave it 3-stars.

Finished listening to
The Pardon: The Politics of Presidential Mercy 4-stars. It mostly covers President Gerald Ford’s pardon of Richard M. Nixon, but then uses that to reflect on more recent uses (and abuses) of the presidential pardon.

finished Colum McCann's "Thirteen Ways of Looking" - a novella and 3 short stories in one book. A welcome difference from Alter's bio of Jimmy Carter-"His Very Best" which I skipped the middle 20 pp. of 670 . . last month!
African American History: From Emancipation Through Jim CrowI finished listening to two books on a long car ride to West Virginia. First was
. I gave it 3-stars - possibly because it was written by an Ohio State University professor. There were a few stories that I had not heard before. But the hangings... How could men do that to other men?
The ride home was mostly
The Editor: How Publishing Legend Judith Jones Shaped Culture in America which I gave 4-stars (could easily be 4.5). Judith Jones was the premier cookbook editor who brought Julia Child to the world's attention. She saved The Diary of a Young Girl from the discard pile. When not helping Julia Child, Emil Lagasse, and Lydia Bastianich become known, she became the editor for both John Updike and Ann Tyler. She finagled her way to legendary stature at Knopf, working for that one company (through a couple of corporate acquistions) for more than 45 years.
I loved the name dropping, her finesse to establish a niche for both a woman in publishing and a market for cookbooks.
An easy listen which made a drive to West Virginia go for quickly.

Right now it’s The Grace of Kings by Ken Liu
, The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul Tremblay
, Quicksilver by Neal Stephenson, and Criminal Deluxe Edition by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips.
The Grace of Kings is the first book in a fantasy series based on Chinese history.
The Cabin at the End of the World was recently made into the movie Knock at the Cabin by M. Night Shyamalan, and starring, among others, Jonathan Groff, Dave Bautista, and Rupert Grint.
Quicksilver is the first book in Stephenson’s Baroque Cycle, a historical trilogy featuring various scientists, mathematicians, and inventors of the 1600s.
Criminal Deluxe Edition Volume One is some of the best crime comics ever done.
Finished
The Dark Maestro which is Brendan Slocumb's third mystery which will be published in May. In my opinion, he has gotten better with each book.

If your pimpernel is scarlet, you need to get it looked at.

HA!
Today I finished Byron Pitts inspirational memoir written in 2009 prior to his move from CBS to ABC.
Step Out on Nothing: How Faith and Family Helped Me Conquer Life's Challenges. I gave it 3-stars.

This won't happen again for awhile. I finished 3 books today. I finished reading
Catalina which I gave 3 stars. Then I finished listening to
Money, Lies, and God: Inside the Movement to Destroy American Democracy. I gave it 4-stars and I'm sure it didn't help my blood pressure so, while I was fixing supper I listened to most of
It Seemed Like a Bad Idea at the Time (I finished after dinner). I gave it 3-stars. It's a behind the scenes look at TV shows I didn't watch but recognize the people who were in them (think The Brady Bunch Variety Show).

Thanks, Britany!
In the last couple of days I finished 3 more books. One is a book that was my slow read
Memories of a Catholic Girlhood / How I Grew / Intellectual Memoirs. I gave it 2-stars.
Then a definite 4-star read for an ARC (thanks BookBrowse) of
The World's Greatest Detective and Her Just Okay Assistant. It's the author's debut, but I smell series and I'll be ready to read whatever comes along.
I just finished listening to
Lorne: The Man Who Invented Saturday Night Live which I gave 3.5 stars. I love behind the scenes stuff and this doesn't disappoint. I don't know exactly when I started watching SNL, but even though I'm an old lady, I definitely like there political sketches. It's a warts and all story.

This Is a Love Story and gave both of the 3 stars.
Finished reading
Gather Me: A Memoir in Praise of the Books That Saved Me 4-stars and
Autobiography of Mark Twain: Volume 1, Reader's Edition 3 stars (but did start volume 2 today)

I just finished "Patient" by Akshay Rao. Excellent humorous (yes!) memoir about his hospitalization after long Covid and a kidney malfunction.
Since I'm so far behind, I'm just going to list the books that I've read - most have been for Booktopia.
Revenge: The Inside Story of Trump's Return to Power
Rooms for Vanishing: A Novel
Lula Dean's Little Library of Banned Books
Optional Practical Training
Taking Back Lent: Moving with Repentance and Reflection to the Resurrection
You Can Never Die: A Graphic Memoir
Rabbit Moon: A Novel
Shopgirls: A Novel
All or Nothing: How Trump Recaptured America
Bachelor Girl
Then 3 books I found on Facebook that took less than 5 minutes (a piece) to read. I thought the first was hilarious, the next two just okay:
The Totally Appropriate Shirt Alphabet
The Totally Appropriate Fork Alphabet
The ABCs of Trump
Revenge: The Inside Story of Trump's Return to Power
