Monthly Prompt Reading Challenge (Current Procedure—Year 2026 Onwards)

Hi all,
I thought it might be fun to create a Reading Challenge together and/or participate in it :-)

The challenge is called:

Monthly Prompt Reading Challenge

Here's how it works:

Creation:

(1) In the last quarter of each year—specifically from 1st October to 20th December—you can mention in the comments below if you wish to create prompts for the next year.

(2) I will then divide the months among the interested members.

If there is only one interested member then that member will be assigned all the twelve months. If there are two interested members then each will be assigned six months. If there are three interested members then each will be assigned four months. And so on.

If there are more than twelve interested members then the months will be assigned to the first twelve members who commented between 1st October to 20th December.

(3) I'll post the list of the members along with their assigned months in this thread sometime between 21st to 31st December.

(4) You can create the prompt(s) anytime between the 1st of January to the 1st of your assigned month(s).

(5) If the month assigned to you has started and no prompt has been created for it then you will be sent a reminder message. If there's no response by the end of the third day of your assigned month then I will create a prompt for that month.

(6) Click on 'new topic' to create your prompt. Write both the month and the title.

Example 1:

March 2025—S is for Start

Example 2:

March 2025—Blue Cover

(7) Elaborate the prompt in the first post.

Example 1:

March 2025—S is for Start

Read a book that meets at least one of the following requirements:

(a) title starts with the letter 'S'
(b) cover contains an object starting with the letter 'S'
(c) author's first name starts with the letter 'S'
(d) protagonist's (male or female) first name starts with the letter 'S'
(e) that's first in a series

Wish you all the best and Happy Reading :-)

Example 2:

March 2025—Blue Cover
Read a book whose cover is predominantly blue.

(8) I'll list down the created prompts below. Before you create a new prompt please check the list to avoid repeating a prompt.

Please note you just need to avoid copying the title and the concept. You can copy some parts of an existing prompt—created by you or another member—to your new prompt if they match its concept.

Like if there's a prompt titled "S is for Start" containing parts (a) to (e) and some of the parts match the concept of the prompt you're creating then you can include those parts while elaborating your prompt.

If there's a prompt titled "Blue Cover" and the concept is to "Read a book whose cover is predominantly blue" then you can't repeat it. But you can create a prompt titled "Green Cover" and elaborate it as "Read a book whose cover is predominantly green".

(9) You can repeat a prompt after three years if you like.

For example:

If you created a certain prompt in 2025 then you can use it again in 2028. That is, you can use the same title, the same concept, and/or the same elaboration.

If another member created a certain prompt in 2025 then you can use it again in 2028. That is, you can't use the same title but you can use the same concept. Like if the prompt was titled "Blue Cover" and the concept was to "Read a book whose cover is predominantly blue" then you can use the same concept but rephrase the title in your own words such as "Covered in Blue". While elaborating the prompt, you can copy some of the text, though it would be better if you write most of the elaboration in your own words.

Participation:

(10) You can participate in the challenge even if you haven't created any prompt.

(11) Participants can choose any book—regardless of the genre—that matches the prompt and read it during the specified month. You have to read only one book per prompt but you can read more if you want.

(12) You don't have to participate every month. However, please try to participate during at least those months for which you have created the prompts. You just need to join in. If you're unable to read the book by the end of the month then you can let the challenge remain incomplete.

Well, I hope you all enjoy creating this challenge and/or participating in it. I'm looking forward to reading books matching your prompts :-)

If you need any help or have any questions then please feel free to ask in the comments below.

Wish you all the best and Happy Reading :-)
