Need a good historical romance. Other genres too. discussion

This may not be what you like, but it is definitely historical fiction.
I read this series by Elswyth Thane many times. Each book was set during a war beginning with the Revolutionary War through WWII. People who bought the book liked the story but said that the formatting has issues. :( I have the kindle editions and don't remember a problem with them. There are 7 books, each book taking place during a war.

The Girl in His Shadow
Historical fiction w/ a touch of romance.
London 1832 & 1845. 8 YO Nora's family died of cholera in 1832
& surgeon Dr. Croft took her in. He had a morning charity clinic &
taught @ St. Bart's hosp. With time she became his clinic mgr.
& did sutures etc. She attended an Italian medical school, in a
subsequent book in the series.

Some of this book was gritty. Dr. Croft pd for stolen bodies &
he did experiments & autopsies on them.

A Dangerous Madness
Read this historical fiction 7 years ago & did a GR review. In 1812, the English
Prime Minister, Spencer Perceval, was murdered. The hero James, a former soldier, helped investigate the PM's murder. The public knew that Perceval opposed slave trading. Heroine, Phoebe, hid her intelligence at first. Kisses only.
