Sophie (engulfedinstars) | 72 comments Hey so I was wondering if you guys had any thoughts on how I should choose books to read for the Hopeful Book Club?? Right now I am just sort of randomly picking books that I would like to read and think you would like to read and I try to pick varying books from different genres and stuff but I don't know all the books, in fact I have an extremely limited capacity of book knowledge and I have even less knowledge of what all you guys like to read. I'm thinking some kind of key like choosing a book from 5 set genres every month or you guys could send me books and I'll pick five to put on the poll each month or something?? You'll still be able to write in books but then you'll have better options?? idk, any ideas???

Ella | 84 comments I like the idea. Maybe you could pick one ChickLit, one YA, one nonfiction etc (until you get to 5 books, or however many you want) then let people pick from that list and add their own...?

Yeah thats a good idea and kinda what I've been trying to do. I usually try for: one in the last poll that got a lot of votes, a classic, a YA, chicklit, mystery/adventure/fantasy/etc and maybe something related to Carrie. But there are so many books out there that I don't know (well I do a bit of research but that can only go so far) so I think suggestions from people would really help.

Pan (Panshope) | 5 comments I think the picking from different genres is a pretty good idea because then you might get people to enjoy an genre they never have before. And if you can't find a book in a genre you like, you could pick one at random.

Alternatively, I know some authors here are happy to send a PDF copy of their book to people for a review - maybe get in touch with some of them and ask if they'd be willing to send out copies to people participating.
Then that helps out the author and gives people an indie story to try. I guess you'd just have to make sure that people are happy enough to read the book, discuss it and write a review.

Or that could be a separate event entirely :)

I'm also happy to give suggestions for books to read

Stephanie (stecky) | 29 comments It might help to look at what book clubs are reading, or maybe get recommendations at your local library?
