Theresa | 16231 comments Pace is the star pitcher on a national league baseball team based in Santa Barbara, CA called Pacific Heat. Baseball is his life, the only thing in his life, that he ever wanted or needed. He's a bit of loner despite close bonds to teammates, and does not trust easily. Now at 30 he's fighting severe pain, facing the reality of a possible career side-lining injury when into his life walks Holly and all changes. Holly is a reporter, a journalist knowing for her insightful series that ferret out secrets the companies and industries she investigate want to keep buried. Holly too is a loner, someone scarred who does not trust easily. As Holly starts to spend time with the team, writing a series about the team, its players and its season, especially Pace, the chemistry between the two of them sizzles. But as leaks known only within the team appear in the press, Holly is suspected and the delicate trust blooming between her, Pace and the team is threatened. Then she learns a truth about the team that she has to expose and Holly sees all she now cherishes and wants threatened.

I bumped this to 4 stars because I so completely and thoroughly enjoyed this smutty romance set in the world of baseball, and I had little expectations that I would. I've already added the sequel to my TBR. It's just hot and steamy enough, there's a lot about pro-baseball, team dynamics, and the constant issues of banned performance enhancing stimulants and drugs that dog players and teams. There's even a stalker groupy. I especially loved the group of underprivileged kids that Pace befriends and starts teaching how to play in an empty lot in a dodgy part of town.
