Agnes Moorehead Roles
Duration: April 1, 2025 - June 30, 2025

Object:
Read one book for each of the 10 movies.

Agnes Moorehead played the mortal-hating witch and mother to Samantha (Elizabeth Montgomery) on Bewitched and is best known for her role as Endora. However, during her career, she appeared in some other very important projects. Moorehead left behind a spirited legacy when she passed away 50 years ago on April 30, 1974. Born in the small town of Clinton, Massachusetts to a pastor, she found her love of performing at just age three while singing in the church. While she left the small town eventually to pursue her dreams, she often came back to the town and people she loved there.

Citizen Kane
Moorehead’s very first movie role was in the cinematic treasures Citizen Kane, often considered to be one of the greatest movies of all time. She played Mary Kane, the mother of the main character Charles Foster Kane, played by Orson Welles. The two met when she joined his ’30s radio troupe, Mercury Players. She appeared in his infamous War of the Worlds radio broadcast in 1938 and it was Welles who inspired her to move to Hollywood and pursue movies.
🎦 1. Read a book where the MC is a mother OR where there is a 1, 7 or 8 in the page count (share count) OR where one person encourages another to follow their dreams.

Mrs. Parkington
This movie tells the story of a woman's life, told via flashbacks, from boarding house maid to society matron. Susie is introduced to Baroness Aspasia Conti (Moorehead), a French aristocrat and close friend and former mistress of Augustus, who helps Susie pick out clothes and learn the social graces needed for a woman of her station.
Moorehead won a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress for this role.
🎦 3. Read a book set in Nevada or New York City OR a book that goes back and forth in time OR where an older person teaches a younger person about life (your interpretation).

Those Redheads from Seattle
A woman (Moorehead) takes her four unmarried daughters to Alaska during the 1898 Gold Rush to help their father, not knowing he is already dead.
🎦 4. Read a book set in Alaska OR where a mother has four daughters OR with a red headed woman in the story.

Pollyanna

Who's Minding the Store?
Rich Mrs. Phoebe Tuttle, a wealthy department store owner, is upset that her daughter Barbara is engaged to a man beneath their social status, Norman Phiffier.
🎦 6. Read a book where a mother has a daughter OR where someone works in a retail store OR where the MC's first name begins with P or last name begins with T.

Hush…Hush, Sweet Charlotte
Moorehead proved herself among top stars Bette Davis, Olivia de Havilland and Mary Astor in this psychological horror thriller. She plays Charlotte's loyal housekeeper, Velma.
Moorehead won a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress for this role.
🎦 7. Read a book with a housekeeper character OR a book that is tagged as psychological, horror, or thriller OR a book set in the 1960s.

Her next movie is a 1966 American semi-biographical musical drama film about the life of Jeannine Deckers, the nun who recorded the chart-topping song "Dominique". Moorehead plays Sister Cluny.
🎦 8. Read a book with a nun in the story OR set in a location that begins with a B OR where a character can play the piano.

Charlotte's Web

🎦 9. Read a book with a character who encourages others OR a Series #7 (share series name) OR read Charlotte’s Web.

Wild Wild West
In 1967 she won an Emmy for her role as Emma Valentine in "The Night of the Vicious Valentine". To warn some of the country's wealthiest men about recurrent murders, Agents West and Gordon visit Curtis Dodd, who could become the next victim. Dodd, who is playing the piano, is killed as a lethal spear is fired from the piano keys. Through a series of clues, West and Gordon realize that murdered men were all married to younger women whose marriages were arranged by matchmaker Emma Valentine.

Agnes Moorehead played the mortal-hating witch and mother to Samantha (Elizabeth Montgomery) on Bewitched and is best known for her role as Endora.
