Who is going to read Devil's Cub in April? Which time is this for you?

Please, put any spoiler in the spoiler brackets.

The thread with spoilers is here.

I listened to an audiobook in March. I wanted to do it immediately after "These Old Shades."

"Devil's Cub" is one of my absolute favourite novels, my friend, my comfort reading, etc. Even Michael Drew's voice as a Dominic, which was rather awful, couldn't spoil my pleasure ;-)

Barb in Maryland | 818 comments First read this in 1967 or '68. Really enjoyed it. But it never became one of my regular re-reads. Sorry, Mela...

Here's the cover of my first copy:
Devil's Cub by Georgette Heyer

Isn't that just swoon-worthy?

Teresa | 2199 comments I'll be getting to it later in the month hopefully. Not one of my stand out favourites.

It just does not depict a scene in the book!

I know! Absolutely lovely scene, but from some other book--not Devil's Cub!! The cover did make me buy the book, so the publisher's mission was accomplished...

I love this so much! Not because Devi's Cub is a favorite, but because books are comfort and friends. Non-readers just don't understand that. :)

Yes, sadly, you are right. I often don't have the energy to explain it to them.

Jackie | 1746 comments I had already decided not to re-read, however I see my library has the audio book on CDs. I don't currently have a working CD player but I could get one, and have been meaning to in fact.

Devil's Cub was my very first Heyer, read as a teenager and many times since.

OK, I'm going to request the CD audio book and order a CD player.

Nancy (gr-nancy-a) | 55 comments Just discovered Hoopla through my local library. I am able to get the books I want to read WHEN I want to read them ;) planning to read Devil’s Cub.
(Don’t remember reading it ….)

Anne | 114 comments I don’t think I will reread this one. I’ve read it quite a few times over the years and it’s really not a favourite. I like the characters best when they reappear in An infamous Army which is one of my favourite Heyers.

oh! I wanted to go on to An Infamous Army
the German Title is Barbara and the battle of Waterloo
Barbara und die Schlacht von Waterloo

I enjoyed reading Devil´s cub straight after these old shades - it mirrors my feelings as mother of a 24 and a 27 year old, what is similar and different in the kids today and in us 25 years later

Sheila (in LA) (sheila_in_la) | 401 comments I am reading this on my kindle and for the first time. I did pick it up a few years ago but didn't get very far. I'm hooked this time (though I still think the Alastair family is borderline deranged and I'm not sure I find it charming). Mary and Dominic are on the boat headed to France. She appears to be a match for him at least.

"borderline deranged" made me chuckle.

Big Fan | 51 comments There's a line toward the end where Rupert objecting to Mr Hammond's attitude in Dijon says ".. stap me if I do .. " in some editions, specifically Bantam paperback published 1967, 11th printing 1983.

In the Kindle version of "The Classical Historical Novels and Regency Romances: Georgette Heyer Collection" that line is rendered ".. slap me if I do .. ". This Kindle version has various other typographical issues, but can it be correct in this case?

I've heard and read the expression "stap me" in movies and other books.

Big Fan | 51 comments Turns out the same Kindle eBook "stap" multiple times in These Old Shades.

Sara Caudwell in "Thus was Adonis Murdered" has the historian/detective explain about recounciling alternative versions of copied old texts.
