Please check in here if you are reading or planning to read Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky. Any first impressions?

No spoilers here, please!

Dawn (caveatlector) | 353 comments I tried to read this last month and it just didn't appeal to me. I feel like this one is more of a wrong time book, nothing wrong with it in particular, but I was not in the right mood for it.

Random (rand0m1s) | 1301 comments I read this a while back and won't be rereading. But I will jump in with the discussion as my memory allows.

I do very much love this series and I hope those who are new to it enjoy it. :)

This book was my introduction to Adrian Tchaikovsky and I fell in love with his writing. Looking forward to the discussion!

(...not for the arachnophobic...)

Forrest (fmmcgraw) | 78 comments I’m excited to try this one. I have it on Kindle but I might need to keep the room lights on for the creepy parts. :)

CJ | 72 comments This will be my first read of this particular novel by Tchaikovsky, but I loved Alien Clay and Shards of Earth. Hoping I'll like this too.

MadProfessah (madprofesssah) | 174 comments This is clearly his best book. When people who know I like SF ask me for a recommendation I give them
the name of this book.

I read this in 2023 (along with the rest of the series) and gave this book a 10. Not planning to read it at this time.

I’m glad I was encouraged by others to try it because I had read Cage of Souls with the group in 2022 (it was BotM) and thought it was awfully bleak. I thought maybe this author was not for me, but then I read the Children of Time series and, after that, Shadows of the Apt, and liked all of those. So I guess it was just that one book that wasn’t right for me.

Rachel | 93 comments Agree that this is the best of his to start with. I’d put Cage of Souls toward the bottom of that list. I really don’t feel it is representative of his overall work

aPriL does feral sometimes (cheshirescratch) I loved this book, and I agree it is one of the author’s best!
