Hi Everyone & welcome to our group read - first Kaye in a while.

We read this one waaay back in 2017. I've closed the threads but if anyone wants to read them feel free! :)

This is the first Death in ... book that Kaye wrote. None of them were originally called Death in... but they were retitled as a branding exercise.

So has anyone read this title before?

How many times?

What format are you using this time?

This is my first time reading this title. I'm reading on my kindle with this cover Death in Kashmir by M.M. Kaye

My copy has an introduction by Kaye. She said she was working away, 2 & a bit chapters in, when there was a knock at her door. This was her first meeting of her future husband! The book was abandoned & she came back to it many years later when they were a bit broke. 'Molly" felt the tattered manuscript didn't read too badly, so she updated it to the end of the Raj (rather than the beginning of the war)

I started yesterday - & had a lot of trouble putting it down! I'm already up to 21%!

Ellen | 16 comments I have read it before but it has probably been over 30 years. Anyway long before Goodreads. I am reading a large print hardback copy Death in Kashmir.

Anne | 16 comments I have it on kindle and have read it many times before. It’s always an enjoyable read, the mystery is well plotted and the descriptions of Kashmir and the lakes makes you want to go there.

Jackie | 668 comments This is my first read, I have a hardback checked out from the library and this is the cover.

Death in Kashmir by M.M. Kaye

Susan in NC (susanncreader) | 2129 comments I’ve never read this Kaye mystery before, but I think it’s my new favorite of her ‘Death In’ thrillers. I was able to get the lovely large print version from my library; I also got the Audible with a credit, but don’t recommend unless you only do audiobooks. The narrator had a rather bland affect in her voice, didn’t do much for me. But I loved the story, very evocative and immersive!

Jackie | 668 comments I'm not quite 1/2 the way through, and it's a fast moving story I'm having trouble putting down.

I have such strong Mary Stewart vibes.

Same here!

Lesley | 275 comments Sorry, I'm a bit late starting this. I misplaced my kindle reader and have been searching through drawers, bookcase etc. and finally found it on the side table where I thought I'd last seen it. I had put a letter from OPSM down on top of it! Was there a message here do you think :)

Anyway, now I've found it, the jolly thing needs charging, so I'll start it tomorrow. I did read it back in 2017 and remember that I thought Maggie Smith would be perfect if it was made into a movie; that I liked it the most of her books I've read; that I was totally off beam about the 'villain'. So, we'll see how it measures up on this time round.

Oh, Maggie Smith, excellent choice! I suspected the villain, but several others as well, so I was enthralled through the ending.

& I got my cover wrong. My kindle often doesn't download the covers when its from Amazon or has them at the end of the book when i get them from somewhere else.

This is my cover Death in Kashmir by M.M. Kaye . Much nicer.

I'm going to change the description on my copy to the one on Amazon. Someone has changed every edition to a description that has a couple of minor spoilers.
