Is the shinning actually scary or no, this is my first horror novel so I'm unsure if it will actually be scary

I don’t think it’s scary, it’s more like the anticipation of scenes makes the book thrilling. Some descriptions can be scary though, but that depends on how imaginative you are!
its not scary like a horror type jumpscare scary but it is quite thrilling on a psychological level and might be difficult if youre a sensitive person due to some graphic scenes with a lot of violence. honestly though i also expected a lot of terrifying moments but thats not at all the case here. have a good read!
i always struggle to read any king book, because he takes forever to get to the point, BUT thats what makes it 'scary'
as @Nazmin said, its the anticipation thats thrilling
you have to be patient :)

I agree with what everyone else said. There probably won't be anything that will make you jump (which I've done before while reading King). It's more psychological.
From a horror standpoint? Somewhat, as someone above stated it's more of a slow-burn horror that takes a while before it scares you. I would argue that certain suggestive/tasteless and rather unnecessary language and scenes that aren't horror are far more scary than anything else.
