Summary

Chapter 14: The Sixth Revelation: Julian receives a locution that Christ thanks her for her service and suffering on His account.

Chapter 15: The Seventh Revelation: Julian receives a sensation in her soul of delight, consisting of joy, peace, and ease, but within a short while received a sense of depression, weariness, and self-loathing.

Chapter 16: The Eighth Revelation: Julian sees the final sufferings of Christ’s passion on the cross, his death, and the discoloring of His face which undergoes four color changes.

Chapter 17: The Eighth Revelation Continues: As Christ is dying the words that Julian recalls are Christ’s “I thirst,” which leads Julian to contemplate the four ways of the dryness of Christ’s body.

Chapter 18: The Eighth Revelation Continues: In the dying of Christ on the cross, Julian saw the pain and compassion of the Blessed Mother who suffered along with her son.

Chapter 19: The Eighth Revelation Continues: Julian explains she had the urge to look away from the cross but she couldn’t bring herself to do so. Looking at the cross brought her a sense of security from the fear of the demons.

Chapter 20: The Eighth Revelation Continues: While Julian stares at Christ’s suffering on the cross, she contemplates that (1) Jesus love for all souls was so strong that He did this willingly, (2) that He longed to do this, and (3) He had great satisfaction from His sufferings.

Chapter 21: The Eighth Revelation Continues: While still viewing the eighth revelation, Julian realizes that there are three ways of contemplating the crucifixion: (1) with contrition and compassion for His suffering, (2) to be with Him on the cross, and (3) to die with Him on the cross.
