I am really on the fence about continuing. Force is a good author, but I just can't get past the total rip off of Eve-Roarke and her trying to make Sam a badass contemporary. It just doesn't work for me. It's just a pale imitation. Especially since the mystery is so weak.
The first time around with the Fatal series, I didn’t sense the Eve/Roarke copycatting so much. The second time? It was glaring. I’m a diehard In Death series fan so I don’t know how I missed it. She was heavily criticized for it.
What continues to keep me interested in the series are the strength of the secondary characterizations and how much I like and am interested in them. Those storylines are often powerful.
Here’s Force’s opportunity to reshape Sam and I hope she does. I got a sense of it here but I’ll need to see it be a focus…have her grow up.
Thanks for your candidness, Anita. Your responses are thoughtful and reflective.
