The Giver - Lois Lowry
New Moon (2nd book of Twilight) - Stephanie Meyer
The Hunger Games (1st book) - Suzanne Collins

I love dark romance books but I'm scared to start the Cat and Mouse duet cause there is a lot of mixed reviews what do you guys think?
I'm currently reading Never Lie by Freida McFradden but I'm too scared to continue cause the tension and suspense is growing..how do you feel about the ending?
@ Phoenix The Cat and Mouse Duet is a 50-50. The first one was a 5★ for me and the second was a 4★ but you really need to pay attention to all the tw. I would keep your mind open if you end up reading it and just remember your mental health is important. Again PLEASE pay attention to the tw.
@☆TaterTot Reads☆ thank you for the advice and I will for sure listen. I feel I'm pretty good with tw but that won't stop me from looking into it. Do you have any books to compare the Cat and Mouse duet to or is it on its own level?
@Phoenix ofc np! And abt the comparing it to others...I haven't read anything that has been that extreme yet so imma have to say it's on its own level.
The Prison Healer is so so so so good and so is the cruel prince six of crows and the crooked kingdom and if ur into mystery the housemaid is rlly good hop e this helpss!
Personally, my five-star reads are Before the Coffee Gets Cold, Gothikana, Family of Liars, We were Liars, A Court of Mist and Fury, and Butcher and Blackbird ❤️
I thought the prison healer series and the assistant to the villain book were amazing, shatter me and throne of glass are also pretty high up there
There are two books and two series that I know of that are very well written. I would like normally recommend them to anyone.Chimeras of Estmer is a really crazy mix of mystery, very epic fantasy with court intrigue and lost races and journeys and battles, and a bit of humour. This story feels like an epic saga magically squeezed into a single book, because it has a very complex plot (there are several stories in this book, seemingly unconnected at first, but then converging like streams flowing into a river), lots of characters and POVs, and really great world-building.
I don't know how to put it, but Chimeras of Estmer feels like a modernized and improved version of classic fantasy. It's very well-written and optimistic and free of explicit scenes, just like traditional fantasy, but it's easy to read and there are a lot of very unexpected plot twists.
There is also a bit of very elegant madness. For example, one of the main characters spends about half the story as a cat because a certain villain who killed his teacher and stole his magic also turned him into an animal. The magic in this book is like a wallet that a murderer can take from his victim. So this guy has to somehow return to his human form, find his teacher's killer, and get his stolen magic back. This book also features a crawling puddle of sentient water that follows and spies on people and then falls in love with a human girl, a princess who likes to solve mathematical equations, a cunning pirate with a living ship, and many other strange creatures and characters.
But there are a few flaws in Chimeras. For example, it has a strange cover and no map. Also, the first few chapters are a bit heavy on characters' thoughts. After the second or third chapter, however, this book becomes a real page-turner and I’m very happy to recommend it to anyone.
Silver Hands is part horror, part historical fiction, and part fantasy. It's like the Shogun series, but it's about an English girl, not an English guy, who happens to be in Tokugawa-era Japan. On top of that, she's being stalked by a demon in human form who wants to marry her. It's not exactly our world, though, because there's a flying island called Laputa floating in the sky above Japan. So there is a bit of AU history in this book as well.
Also, it's a bit like the first book in the Wizard of Earthsea trilogy, where the main character also runs away from a dark enemy at first, but then finds the strength to turn around and face the enemy and take the fight. Anyway, it's definitely a great book, although I'm not sure what genre it belongs in.
And as well as Chimeras of Estmer and Silver Hands, I like the Osten Ard books by Tad Williams. These include two book series, Memory, Sorrow and Thorn and The Last King of Osten Ard, and a few stand-alone books, all set in the same fictional world. This world is very complex and well described, like Middle-earth or the world of ASOIAF, and all the books are very well written. I think the only reason they're not as popular as LOTR or ASOIAF is that they've never been made into series or movies, because series and movies always do a lot for the popularity of the books they're based on. If such series were to be made, these books would eventually become more popular than LOTR and ASOIAF.other strange creatures and characters.
